Update on...DAZZLER

Post by Gremlin »

With the world in a bit of a dark and dreary place right now we decided to let our latest character update brighten up your day in a way only she can do. Since we last touched base with her, the X-Men's resident songstress rejoined the team after many years absence, bounced around alternate realities with the X-Treme X-Men and even joined the Avengers' side team A-Force. Despite all her adventures though we are still no closer to understanding her strange resurrection power. So why not let life's worries drift away as you delve behind the music on the updated life of...Dazzler. Plus as an added bonus, we have compiled a brief history of Dazzler's music career as well as some of the few songs that she has song on panel in The Music of Dazzler!

A very good update on her. She is often vital on missions, but still gets sidelined so often.

It is interesting that a lot of people consider Herald-Dazzler as canon, and not what-if.

I’m not sure what criterion you used to select songs for the music page, but you might mention her performance of Proud Mary in the outback. After all, it was “so raw it put Tina Turner to shame.”

Seems they only mentioned recorded music, or only original music?

But I don't think the summary is accurate. In Uncanny X-Men #217, Juggernaut reveals that he is a fan and that he "bought her records" meaning there was already more than one single at that point, and in Dazzler #29, she was shooting an "album cover", which only makes sense if there was an album to use it for.

Though not explicitely stated, I believe she recorded more than one song in Dazzler #22. They obviously are in the studio for hours, doing take after take and near the end a narration box says "Dazzler doesn't know how many takes she's done of this song, she lost count after fifteen", which doesn't neccessarily mean that it's the only song they did that day. After all, right in the next panel, the guy in charge of the recording says "We've laid down so much material today, it'll make the guys at paradeen records drool into their annual reports".

Another time frame where she could have recorded more singles or another album is during the Graphic Novel, Dazzler The Movie. The plot takes place over several months, during which Roman Nekobah pushes Dazzler to stardom and they shoot a movie together, and as both of them were also singers, they also might have recorded some songs for the movie's soundtrack.

Some of Dazzler's music also might have been released "posthume", after the X-Men's publicly broadcasted apparent death in Ucanny X-Men #227. Maybe a live recording of her concert in Carnegie Hall in Dazzler #21, or when she was on tour with Bruce Harries during Dazzler #14-16.

As for Dazzler's music, as mentioned by Nu-D she sang "Proud Mary" and a bunch of other songs in a bar in Uncanny X-Men #239, in Dazzler The Movie she sings "I'm Still Standing" in a Night club, according to the rehearsals her set list for Carnegie Hall in Dazzler #21 included "Blue Suede Shoes", "Because the Night", "Hungry Heart" and "Like a Rolling Stone", and in Dazzler #25 she sang "Psycho Killer" and "I don't like Mondays" to live audiences.
