Spotlight on...CAPTAIN MARVEL I

Post by Dean Clayton »

The legacy of Captain Marvel begins with Mar-Vell, captain of the Kree Colonial Vanguard. Sent to Earth as a spy, he was betrayed by his commanding officer and forged a new home on this blue marble as the hero Captain Marvel. Mar-Vell served as inspiration for the heroism of Carol Danvers, Rick Jones, and others who followed in his footsteps. The death of Captain Marvel to cancer stands as one of the most poignant (and long-lasting) comic book deaths of all time. As we celebrate Captain Marvel month, read about the man who started it all... Mar-Vell.

From The Ashes Books I like: X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Exceptional X-Men, X-Force, Dazzler, and NYX…so far, so good.

This article prompted a question I’ve always had, but never bothered to research (I’m not all that familiar with cosmic marvel).

How about an article on the relationship between “Nega Bands,” and “Quantum Bands,” and any other marvel bands (ok, maybe not Lila’s band)?

Also looking forward to someday reading a Rick Jones spotlight. It ought to be marvelously disjointed.

Speaking of Quantum Bands, I also noticed that Quasar is not in the “legacy” section. I haven’t read a comic with Quasar was in it since 1992, or thereabouts. Maybe he’s explicitly disavowed being influenced by MarVell, but damn if that costume and those wrist bands don’t look like an effort to back door Captain Marvel into 616 without resurrectIng him. Same colors, star on the chest, blue mask with open hair, blonde, wrist bands. Even overlapping villains.

If you didn’t know better, this cover have been MarVell with an updated costume for the ‘90’s:

If you have a read of the Quasar spotlight on our Mightyavengers.net you'll learn that yes, there are some strong connections between he and Mar-Vell :D. Though probably not enough ti warrant inclusion in the Legacy section perhaps?
