Borrowing the name of the defunct California team, the New Champions assembled in the final days of Nova's original series. They became heroes of Xandar during the war with the Skrulls, a story arc which was passed on to Fantastic Four and Rom after Nova was cancelled. Unfortunately, the Champions suffered a tragic fate of being killed off-panel in Avengers by the marauding space pirate Nebula in one of several devastations of the unlucky world of Xandar.
