Seeing herself as a reincarnation of Rebecca but unmoored by her past, Mother was intent on writing her own story. Programmed to explore the possibility of Dominion through the esoteric arts, she developed a huckster's interest in magic. Borrowing power and passing the payment off on to her victims, she was a sorceress who stayed one step ahead of her debts for over a century. Her only interest was herself, however, and she cashed in all her chips for a failed attempt at godhood, leaving her very vulnerable when what she owed was finally collected.
