When Spike was auditioning to be the newest member of X-Force, Anarchist didn't want him on the team out of fear that when a new black man came onto a show, the older black man got killed off. When Spike joined despite this, his tenure was filled with constant fighting and accusations of racism. Ultimately, these arguments got turned against him and lead to an ironic and tragic fate.

What's the correlation if any to the cartoon character from X-Men: Evolution? Was it just a case of two similar-ish characters with similar-ish names, but not intended to be the same at all?

Spyke from Xmen Evolution was introduced a little less than a year prior to Spike showing up in Xforce. I couldn't find any direct correlation but it's hard to believe that inspiration wasn't taken from the cartoon character, at least for the design.

Thanks for looking that up Wade. I was pretty sure they were both created around the same time, but wasn't sure which came first.
