I remember being excited by Blaze when she first appeared in X-Men Unlimited. But then she never amounted to anything. Symptomatic of that whole first generation of stories after Claremont’s departure.

But it is some kind of funny, the 90s introduced a lot of those (bio) electricity-wavelength-atmosphere based mutants. Scanner, Milan, Katu, Sienna Blaze, Phantazia, Dragoness..

“Supposed” by whom?

The thing about that first post-CC era was that nobody had any developed plans. Writers were just throwing all their “kewl” ideas into books to see what stuck (not much did). Sienna Blaze was probably a character someone had been doodling in his notebook since eighth grade, and when he finally got a chance to put her into a comic, he had no idea what powers and personality to give her, so the’d just wing it and see what happened. That’s why they all have “bio-electric” powers; because that’s what came to mind in the moment.

Admittedly, this is just my speculation as someone who was reading the books at the time and could see that there was no direction.

Not sure where I read that. I think it was in an interview (years later) with a writer from that time. After meeting Xavier, there were plans to have Sienna join the X-Men. Like I said, I can’t remember where exactly that has been mentioned but it doesn’t matter. It just poked in my head.
