Clearly an amazing friend, this mutant had a similar role in the New X-Men Academy series that Cypher did in the original New Mutants run. He was the down-to-earth character, tempering his more outlandish peers. His powers were not traditionally combat-based and his death on the infamous “bus explosion” was a loss of innocence for our then (and possibly forever) teen heroes.
