The world's first artificial man, it all began with the Original Human Torch. Jim Hammond was created by Professor Phineas T. Horton using his patented synthetic "Horton cells" to simulate human life... the only problem was he burst into flames upon exposure to air. The Human Torch went on to become a police officer, an Invader and a surrogate father before his Golden Age adventures came to an end. For a time, it was believed that the Torch was remolded into the modern synthezoid known as the Vision, but the Human Torch eventually resurfaced to appear alongside his synthetic brother in Avengers West. Having died or lost his powers more than a few times since, Jim Hammond remains one of the oldest active heroes in the Age of Marvels.

Very interesting read.
This one seems like it was particularly complicated to piece together the timeline and decide what was canon. Anything from before the Silver Age is a big blind spot for me so reading about those characters is always enlightening.

I didn’t realize the Invaders were a Silver Age retcon. I thought it was an original Golden Age story.
Re: Spotlight On...ORIGINAL HUMAN TORCH!
The guy who started it all...this was super interesting to me as I haven't read a single story featuring Jim and this gave me a newfound appreciation for the character. I feel like the article gave me a better understanding of the distinction between synthezoids like Jim and the Vision and other more robotic characters like Machine Man. I'd love to see Jim interact more with the wider universe outside of Invaders reunions, I having him step in for Johnny in the Fantastic Four for a bit would be cool.
