WELCOME TO NEW WARRIORS MONTH! Robbie Baldwin's kinetic powers originally made him a bouncing joke of a hero. Learning he was a practically invulnerable representation of all space and time did little to shake his comedic style. Everything changed when Speedball was the sole survivor of the New Warriors blamed for the disaster in Stamford, Connecticut. His new powers and new outlook made him over into the sullen and remorseful Penance. Time helped him heal and redeem himself, but even today Robbie fluctuates between his Speedball and Penance sides, trying to justify his survival in the face of hundreds of innocent people.

One thing I do love about the vastness of the MU and the way trends come and go is that a character who nobody really cared about gets like a 5 year push and interest them and you end up with some fun and weird stuff happening. Speedball had that during Civil War.
Thinking about it, I think the McU would’ve been stronger if the inciting vent was something like Stamford.

From The Ashes Books I like: X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Exceptional X-Men, X-Force, Dazzler, and NYX…so far, so good.

Why is Stamford in 616 different from Lagos in the McU?Blackcyclops wrote: 03 Apr 2026, 22:12 One thing I do love about the vastness of the MU and the way trends come and go is that a character who nobody really cared about gets like a 5 year push and interest them and you end up with some fun and weird stuff happening. Also, why aren’t we capitalizing “c” in “McU?”

Well Stamford involved the New Warriors filming a reality TV show and basically being sloppy so that Nitro killed alot of innocent folks. Leading to the US government reacting.Oldie wrote: Today, 00:54Why is Stamford in 616 different from Lagos in the McU?Blackcyclops wrote: 03 Apr 2026, 22:12 One thing I do love about the vastness of the MU and the way trends come and go is that a character who nobody really cared about gets like a 5 year push and interest them and you end up with some fun and weird stuff happening. In the MCU, the Avengers got careless battling Crossbones (right) and killing alot of innocent folks. Leading to a vague international reaction.
Two different things imo. The issue is not with the location (although American city vs Nigerian city does change the governmental group reacting) but with the circumstances leading to it and the people involved.
