PRIDE MONTH Profile on...SOMNUS

Post by Monolith »

The X-Men (and mutants in general) have long been a metaphor for marginalized and oppressed - whether that be by race, religion or sexuality. While the first openly gay mutant did not come out until 1992, he was in fact created as gay from his first appearance many years earlier. He paved the way for dozens of X-Men and other mutants to embrace their identities in the years that followed, and even characters who debuted in the 1960s were eventually able to live their true lives. One mutant who (although only first appearing in the Krakoan Age) never got a chance to live his true life due to obligation, was given a chance to live his authentic self thanks to Krakoa's wondrous mutant resurrection. Here at UXN, we are full of pride and will be celebrating diversity and queer characters all month long, starting with the miracle that is... SOMNUS!
