Update On...UNUSCIONE

Post by Monolith »

This feisty mutant remains unwavering loyal to causes that she believes in. She reunited with Magneto to be part of a new Brotherhood after Mothervine, though nothing came from this interesting new team. When the mutant nation of Krakoa was established, Xavier set about personally inviting a number of mutants to live on the island. While another mutant she was with at the time became a crucial and integral part of the island's governance, this mutant loyalist was... nowhere to be seen. Catch the latest in this all-too-brief update on... CARMELLA UNUSCIONE!

Where does the name “Unuscione” come from? (I mean, before Stan Lee created Unus the Untouchable). I don’t see an obvious English or Romance language etymology. “Scion” is a word, but “unu-” isn’t a prefix that means anything to me. Google’s first page refers only to the Marvel characters. Did Stan just invent the name out of nothing?

It’s of greek origin and refers to the number one, iirc. The fitness class I attend is taught by someone with the last name Unes. He named the class Unum (a reference to E pluribus unum/“out of many, one").

Reasonable theory. Thanks.

I was going to say I thought it was Italian. E pluribus unum is Latin, not Greek.
