Psylocke is back - but not as we know her! The long-dead, mysterious woman sometimes known as Kwannon has made a significant impact on Krakoa as field-leader of the Hellions. She's made amends with Betsy Braddock, helped Greycrow deal with his inner demons and become a Great Captain of Krakoa. She has no time for idiots, and is about to set sail on a new adventure to help mutants around the globe. But will she ever find the peace she needs within herself? Wow, talk about a rise in profile. Her spotlight looks like it doubled in length in half a decade.

While Kwannon has, for sure, had strides in her characterization expanding, I still feel that her consistent recent usage is more because creators and fans love her design.

I kind wish she hadn’t kept the name Psylocke as that was Betts’s before the switch. I feel the writers could have done better at this by giving her a new name and costume that had nothing to do with Betsy.

That aside, it’s good to see the character progress from her past and forge new relationships. Although I wouldn’t mind for her to revisit some of her origin with Matsu’o and Spiral.

I feel like the keeping of the name and costume means that Marvel get to keep the 'sexy asian ninja' in Psylocke, whilst avoiding the dodgy conotations of the race swap etc. Given that Psylocke is featured in games and on merch etc. I think it makes sense, even though yes, I'd love to see her in a different costume for sure.

That's exactly what it is. Ninja Psylocke is a merchandising gold mine and they're not going to give it up if they don't have to.
