Update On...CAPTAIN BRITAIN I

Post by Monolith »

As Excalibur wraps up this week, our latest oldest Spotlight Update is here! Finishing off the 2005-06 list of updates, we touch in on Brian Braddock for the first time since House of M. Gained and lost a throne, lost and gained a wife, reunited with his twin, a headmaster, an Avenger, a father... much has happened to Brian in the years since we last checked. Presently, he has embraced the Sword of Might to become Captain Avalon of his brother Jamie's mutant-ruled kingdom in Otherworld while providing support to his sister as Captain Britain for Krakoa and cautious aid to Saturnyne at the Starlight Citadel. Today's Spotlight Update covers the last 15 years of Brian Braddock, for your approval!

Behind the scenes here, it’s quite an achievement to see the 2005/2006 spotlights complete. Some of these guys were BIG updates.

Brian has certainly done a lot on those years. I never read much of his avengers run so it was an interesting read.

Great job!

Now the oldest non-updated spotlight is Boom-Boom's, excluding the villains ones of course.

Since you brought it up…you may want to keep your eyes peeled to this site in the New Year. There are plans afoot that may see even more older spotlights brought up to date. We can neither confirm nor deny that a couple of villainous spotlights might have caught our eye as well.

Now that you are all *hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge* about the older spotlights I have to confess that my reply originally had the following after the mention of the villains:

"Although it should be said that Mister Sinister, Selene and Cassandra Nova all had substantial storylines since their spotlights were published and deserve updates."

But then I thought that I came out as whinny and demanding that you do things how I wanted, so I deleted that last sentence. You all do this for free and out of love for these characters, I, someone who is just a consumer, have no right to demand anything.

Anyway, I'm excited for the New Year and Bring On the Bad Guys!

Haha don’t worry. You are much more polite than other people in the past (including myself before I began contributing to the site). I remember making a thread about the lack of a Lockheed spotlight and getting told off by a moderator 😂 (I eventually ended up writing his spotlight myself in the end) I have to give props to Monolith, who wrote the Cap Britain update as well as many more for being a machine at doing articles. In fact I’m still convinced he is an actual machine with a CPU and AI.

We fully acknowledge the Bring on the Bad Guy articles have been somewhat overlooked. Part of that is because, as you pointed out, all of us do this in our own free time. The contributors pick the characters they want to do, and sometimes if a character is unpopular or requires a HUGE update, there aren’t many people jumping to work on them. But the second thing is that the design of the BOTBG articles has changed somewhat. We are in the process of syncing them up to look more like spotlights with vital stats pages, costume galleries and alt versions, this is a lot more time consuming than it appears.
But worry not, one of those character you mentioned will be getting a dust off in the New Years and another one is being currently worked on by yours truely as we speak. We have articles plotted out all the way till May next year and I can’t way to see some of these go live.

When talking about the different article 'types', as much as I love the spotlights (and I do!) I also liked some of the other stuff that might focus on a character but isn't necessarily a spotlight, in the Merging Minds section. Some of the theories / arguments in these may have changed drastically with more recent stories and revelations, such as the Phoenix = Jean (?) and the Magneto/Xavier two sides of the same coin and it'd be interesting to see you knowledgeable guys and gals try to reconcile a lot of the seemingly fragmented/contradictory info we've had since. I'm a big fan of these essay type research articles!
