Spotlight On...MELLENCAMP!

Post by Monolith »

This incorrigible Irish mutant has the distinction of being an Irish comic book character that is NOT based on an Irish stereotype. He wasn't an alcoholic. He wasn't inaccurately taken from Irish mythology. He wasn't literally a leprechaun. He didn't wear a shamrock. He didn't speak like John Wayne from the Quietman. He wasn't a terroris.....never mind. Seamus was one of a number of character introduced in the 90s as effectively cannon fodder. Unlike his peers in the Acolytes who were given some sense of morality and nuance, this vicious reptilian was a bonafide villain with an unusual penchant from returning from the dead..... Read here our profile on the evil Seamus Mellencamp.

I like Seamus. I wish he were appearing regularly somewhere, like as part of the Hellions. He has kind eyes.

P.s. I speculate that his appearance is a combination of two Celtic monsters, the merrow and the kelpie. I know that he's supposedly lizard-like. But fish also have scales.

That actually makes a lot of sense.
