Plucked from obscurity, one-time Hulk villains the Legion of the Living Lightning were used as impetus to creating Miguel Santos, the Mexican-American hero known as the Living Lightning. One of the few Avengers created for the title instead of drawn from other stories, Miguel was a native of California unlike most of his teammates. A young man new to his powers, Miguel eventually left to Avengers to pursue his family's dreams for his higher education. He came out in 2005 as one of the earlier gay heroes to be identified among the Avengers. Although his history with the team is relatively short, Lightning distinguished himself against one of the team's oldest foes, the Grandmaster, in the No Surrender arc. A kid from East L.A. turned planetary hero, today's spotlight falls on the LIVING LIGHTNING!!
