Spotlight on... SAPPHIRE STYX

Post by Douglas Mangum »

Sapphire Styx was a minor villain from Madripoor who tempted and tussled with Wolverine during his time on the island as Patch. Nearly lost to obscurity, she was recently revived to deal with a long-dangling plot thread. Through her interaction with Psylocke, Sapphire Styx was inadvertently responsible for Betsy Braddock being restored to her original British body. Read today's Spotlight on Sapphire Styx to see how this complicated plot came to a close.

I genuinely didn’t know she was an existing character before the Mystery in Madripoor series. That was a real reach into the archives.

Oh that Madripoor series, where I couldn’t tell the heroines apart from the villain women cause they all looked the same to me in their clothes and hairstyles

So Psylocke's current body isn't truly her original, it's actually reconstituted from Sapphire Styx?

Yes, based on her original body. Her original body was destroyed by fire.

Yeah, Sapphire Styx actually murdered her, which actually surprised me. Psylocke reformed her original Caucasus body again, but it hasn’t been explored too much to be honest because all the titles round down due to Hickman’s arrival. I’m hoping that it’s touched upon in the upcoming Excalibur series which she stars in.

That aside, I have to give the MiM writer props for dredging Styx up and using her the way she did. I’ll have to go back and reread this series.
