Spotlight On... BEAST!

Post by Dean Clayton »

It's Christmas time and we can't let the occasional slip by without giving you, our beloved visitors, a gift. Many of you have been asking for updates to the older spotlights and they don't come much older than this one. In the many years since we last caught up with this X-Man he has found love, mutated to an even more animalistic form and crossed the ethical boundaries of science numerous times. So sit down and unwrap our updated spotlight on...BEAST!

So great of you to get me exactly what I wanted for Christmas. :D Thanks so much for the update. Out of all of the older spotlights, Beast seems like he would have had the most things happen to him.

I'm also happy you used the Santa Beast picture as it would have been a missed opportunity otherwise. A++ for the output this year at UXN. Thanks everyone.
Books to be excited for:
Immortal X-men, X-men Red, She-Hulk, The Fall of X

Back in 2011, we at UXN realized our Spotlights were getting old and outdated and began a dedicated effort towards getting the Spotlights up-to-date on a more regular basis. At the time, the oldest Spotlights were 14 characters who hadn't been touched since 2004.

Six years later, thanks to Gremlin, we've finally updated all of those Spotlights.

The never-ending quest continues. We've also updated 13 of 18 Spotlights left from 2005, 6 out of 11 from 2006, and pushed into later years with Quick-Fire Updates and, of course, our efforts to produce new character articles and content as well.

Thank you to our fans, thank you to our contributors, and we'll see you all in 2018!

It's going to be an A-mazing year.

Glad you liked the picture, there was no other option this time of year.

Beast was an odd one. Like Emma, Cyclops etc he was one of the "faces of the X-Men" from about 2004 onward. Any time someone needed something sciency done it was Beast they went to. However, unlike many of the other characters he rarely had a long-running story, instead his stories last a few issues or an arc. He was a main character in the Wolverine and the X-Men series but in reality he only had a handful of notable stories from it.

It's been fun working on the spotlight updates and there are still lots more to come. We might even be churning some rapid-fire ones out next week...

I don't know where to ask this but are the mods planning on updating the Mr. Sinister, Selene and Belasco spotlights? I know that they are special cases since they were originally opinion-based articles converted into spotlight entry format but at least Mr. Sinister and Selene had big storylines since their original articles were published. Just curious about the situation.

They are definitely on our radar as we did Apocalypse last year. The big change with them was we decided to bring them more in line with our traditional spotlights such as adding a vital stats page, and costumes/alt versions where necessary. They will be done one day I assure you.
