This was awesome.

However, not to be nitpicky and a dinosaur brat but...it irks me everyone is calling that a pterodactyl. It is a pteranodon. Pterodactyls had tails and no crest. Pteranodons are cooler! *I blame Power Rangers*

The art in this was so stellar. It's amazing to see Polaris, Havok, Monet, and Rockslide having stuff to do. I just want to see some of the kids in this. This was the best use of Kable, but I still hate him.

Crasscutter and Godkiller are both Gorgon's swords yeah. The tenth person is Magneto who is holding the Cerebro sword.
So not only is Gorgon alive but he's somehow had the Grasscutter and Godkiller swords re-forged? I wonder if Ares knows.

As the person who created one of the swords and last person to write about them, we may see them being reforged.

So the kingdom of Dryador in Otherworld is the faction of Arrakoans that left and are acting as ambassdors to Saturnyne.

Just read this and my first thought was omg poor Apocalypse he really didn't see that coming... knew Summoner would betray them his story sounded suspicious from the start. Wonder though what powers do the horsemen possess?

Apocalypse does have one other child Genocide but don't think we will ever see him again anytime soon so would be interesting to see how he would react to seeing him.

The dialog between Archangel and Apocalypse was also very well done, Archangel clearly indicating will work with but will never trust you as well as past sins coming back to haunt you. Warren Questioning if there was anything Apocalypse regrets then he sees his children...

Not sure about Gorgon, think he killed Phobos (son of Ares)with the God Killer and takes the Grasscutter sword? imagine he would easily be able to reforge it.

Wasn't the Muramassa blade given to the Exiles Sabretooth?
Spoiler: show
Note the Cerebro sword is with Mikhail so this must be after X-Force.

No, that kingdom is just a kingdom in Otherworld. The map of Otherworld shows that the land has alot of different kingdoms and races (Not that Mad Jim Jaspers has a kingdom). They were annihilated by the Arakkoans/Amenth forces. They had one ambassador/emissary left. This ambassador invoked basically a rite by combat and Saturnyne manipulated the X-Men into being the champions to fight the forces of Amenth.

I haven’t read either, but I guess there are major differences between the FCBD pages and these, particularly with the art and text in the tarot readings.

The ambassadors of Dryador are the blue, helmet wearing, golden spears wielding Arrakoans shown in X-Men #12.

Yes, Saturnyne reading is more elaborate, and also some of the character on the Hanged Man tarot were changed:
Rockslide instead of Glob, Syrin instead of Banshee.

Can anyone answer where Cyclops, Jean and Cable went too? I'm a bit confused by this part is it the Sword station?

Also what are the Scarab and Skybreaker swords?

I loved this so much. From start to finish, this was amazing. Pepe Larraz is my jam.

It seemed pretty clear to me from the get go that the Four Horsemen were not on Apocalypse's side. Besides the promo art depicting two of them as (or at least alongside) new villains. Apocalypse built the External Gate to save Arakko, and in the very first scene you've got that messenger claiming Arakko has fallen at the Horsemen's hands. So their cold reaction to Apocalypse and subsequent stabbing was shocking but not surprising. So everything that's about to happen happens because Apocalypse missed his wife and kids...? Lol

That diagram showing how these locations are interconnected REALLY helped me. X-MEN #12 confused the crap out me in this regard but I have a much better grip on it now.

I typically don't buy solo titles but I'm here for CABLE and WOLVERINE while they're X of Swords related.

Anyone else curious where Captain Betsy is during all this? I thought she would be more front and center, since it's Otherworld related and we just saw her help build the gate, but I guess she's in time-out. Or giving mopey boy Brian a pep-talk to get him prepared to wield the Sword of Might.

Monet is always such a joy. I would read her just chatting with Saturnyne on the sidelines of this whole event and see none of the battles to come and be happy.

Well it is the opening salvo and given the tarot card, we know she’ll play a part. She just wasn’t there for this piece of the story...

Just makes me think/worry she won't be very front and center. I guess none of the preludes made her seem that important, but there's always hope for one of my girls :D

You're exactly right. They teleported to the old SWORD station (called the Peak). The Scarab sword is one Apocalypse has been shown with in Arakko flashback sequences. Skybreaker hasn't shown up yet.

No you’re right elixir.

The Dryador people must have established a recognized kingdom once they departed from Arrako (hence them having a tower). I forgot about that panel from X-Men #12.

Apocalypse shouldn't have to use a sword; instead, his arm should be transformed into his sword. One of the original powers of apocalpyse; that seem to be less and less used was his propensity to rearange his body to form hammers; shields; guns; or whatever else he wanted; in addition, this malleability extended to his entire body so he would stretch just like Mr. Fantastic. Even flying; he would use multiple means to do it from transforming his legs into booters; or into graspers like what he did to grab war and caliban way way back in louise simonson's original x-factor run. Also; he was way way way way more durable; dude one blast from his daughter and he was knocked out of commission and took an L. Lastly, he was far smarter; name one reader that didn't expect his children to turn on him and blast him??

with all of that said; I do like the world building and the premise for X of swords. It is the type of old school X-tinction agenda like x-line crossover that has been gone for a while; or at least one that was interesting. My only compliant is I wish it doesn't devolve into a tournament arc; but I just don't see that coming from hickman.

I read shonen manga so I’m here for a tournament arc!!!!

As for why Apoccy needs a sword. Well he technically doesn’t “need a sword” but if the sword has significance to him and it’s a tournament with swords, then he uses a sword:

Two things...

1. I wouldn’t count Apocalypse out just yet. Things are rarely as they seem with such ancient and manipulative characters. Yes, he was easily taken out here, but I find it hard to believe that his sole ambition was to get to Arakko. If part of his mission was to conquer Otherworld, then engineering this conflict would go a long way towards that even if he had to take a little damage in the interim.

2. Was Apocalypse’s malleability his mutant power or a result of his augmentation with Celestial technology? He did lose the latter several years ago.

Point #2 is a good one that I thought was a given since it appears Apocalypse (since his resurrection) has appeared to abandon much of the outside tech motifs.
Also worth mentioning L, we have zero scale for his daughter even.

I am unsure in the Apocalypse series charting when he was a slave to Rama-Tut in Egypt he was clearly seen changing size and strength but this may have been due to the onset of his mutation.

I believed the Celestial Technology was used to augment his powers and increase his lifespan?

I did wonder if his intention was originally for his Horsemen to first defeat the demons and retake control of Arroko then merge it back with Krakoa but something went wrong and they were sealed in. Maybe something else happened to Krakoa in the past we don't know about and he was forced to abandon the island thus trapping them forever?

It could be originally he wanted to invade the demon dimension and otherworld as both LeFay and Saturnyne mentioned Mutants in Otherworld and also explains the hostility they show towards them?

Conquering otherworld would benefit Apocalypse as he could use the magic to prevent M-day from occurring possibly?
