X-Factor #3

Post by Blackcyclops » 09 Sep 2020, 15:46

I don’t think I’ve ever read a Mojoverse story and felt so sad afterwards...like Sofia and Shattybuns’ fates just felt so tragic and relevant. I should’ve expected a book about investigating to go dark but this felt especially dark idk...

It felt extremely wrong about Shatterstar, but Sofia is probably coming back repowered after this which is always welcome.

It surely looks like Polaris meant to keep that promise and she will revisit MojoWorld sooner than later.

Oh this was tragic, but so very very good.

You wanna know what’s the most tragic part????

THAT THE GUY WHO CARRIES A SWORD LIKE WE CARRY CELLPHONES IS STUCK IN THE MOJOVERSE AND NOT IN A CROSSOVER ABOUT FLARKING SWORDS!!!

The combination of art, characters, story/plot..I'm just not feeling this book. This, new mutants and cable seem to be least interesting to me...but at least with the new mutants I kinda like the outer space parts.

Oh, I feel that. I genuinely feel like X-Factor will be back for Shatty-buns at some point.

Does this mean that Sofia is part of X-Factor now? Please?

I quite like the literary content of this book and think that Leah is doing a bang up job of exploring a lot of heavy stuff without beating us over the head. That said, I do find the art hard to follow sometimes and it inspires me to skip rather than taking in details. Not bad art (and the costumes, particularly Lorna’s) have grown in me... but at times it feels like a little much for all that’s happening in this book.

The most obvious omission. But this is a good enough explanation as to why. At least his whereabouts have now been acknowledged.

You mean the white haired girl hanging with Spiral and He-Lix? That's Ginny Guzman, the little girl that Spiral took in when she was part of X-Force.

So, is Ginny Guzman officially the adopted daughter of Spiral now?

Also, I thought Spiral got her freedom from Mojo in the Gambit and Rogue series?

Why is she back to serving him?

Is she “serving him” or is she just working for him? I mean in our world those two things aren’t really easy to tell apart lol

But it seemed like she was working for him and making her own content...

So can someone explain what happened on the last page? And who was the girl sitting with Psylocke, Storm, Domino and Mystique?

Some thoughts about Prodigy. I keep forgetting that his powers allow him to know what other people around him knows, not just skills. But now that he has his powers back, I wonder if the psychic block preventing him from remembering the knowledge he absorbed is also back. Or whether he can keep all the knowledge and skills he absorbed (which was an important plot point in the excellent Academy X story about the future).

Finally got ahold of this issue (Diamond's been really shorting my LCS on a lot of stuff recently). And yeah, dang, this got dark in a hurry. So much so that I was feeling a bit mood whiplash, but I think it's more due to the overly cartoony art than anything. I agree with InsipidLust that I like the art in many respects (it's nice and colorful, good emotions) but it also sometimes feels like too much.

I thought Spiral was acting out of character too, but the revelation about Shatterstar I think explains it - she may not be exactly acting of her own free will.

And Daken's dudebro-ness continues to weird me out. It's not a bad character, just doesn't feel like Daken.

Aurora's reaction to the brutality in the Mojoverse programming in the text page was... unsettling. Is there something weird going on with her, or is that her normal personality?

Try to define "normal personality" for her.....

Aurora has had a multiple personality disorder since the first issue of Alpha Flight. Originally there was just the two extremes, happy-go-lucky carefree Aurora, and religious, stern, repressed Jeanne-Marie, and those personas constantly fought each other for dominance. Eventually, when Aurora had her powers altered after an argument with Northstar, a third persona began to emerge, combining the worst traits of both, it was somewhat of a "heartbreaker without a heart", using the men around her and jumping from one to the next whenever things got problematic or they no longer could provide what she needed. At some point when Aurora was "cured", she was shown with yet another personality. She had briefy become a nun and tried using her powers in non-violent, healing ways.

Over the years, several incidents would traumatize Aurora, with it usually upsetting whatever her mental status was at the time. She'd go back to the clssic two personas, though sometimes that being written as a strength, them sharing their time using the body, or taking over when one was knocked out or unable to deal with a situation).

Getting killed and ressurected would already be much to deal with for a sane, mentally stable person, but for Aurora it may have triggered something. And at the same time Northstar is doing so well, stable relationship and running his own team. (when in the beginning he was an arrogant jerk and pushed everyone away) That might spark some of their old sibling rivalry. And let's not forget, the is something shady that Aurora was up to when she got killed.

So besides there not really being a "normal" behaviour for Aurora, there's lots of reasons for her not to act "normal" right now.
