I think I liked this? Such overt comedy is not usually my cup of tea but it was a fun read and so so queer. I'm here for that. Great cast too. I appreciate Lorna's apparent direction.

I’m interested to see what they’re going to do with Eyeboy. He seems like the one person who I can’t immediately identify the direction for them...

I will say, I love how the book takes time explaining their processes and uses super science in those ways. I know that much exposition is a turn off for some, I liked it alot.

Honestly, I really liked everything. One error I noticed, in the beginning a speech bubble from Proteus came from Goldballs and vice-versa.

So here’s my problem:

I feel like every new series (except Cable because it’s terrible), I’ve felt like OH DAMN I LIKE THIS and it’s felt like something interesting, something new and something I could enjoy and then the returns have just... well? To say they’ve diminished is an understatement. Mostly they’ve had great opens and then got progressively worse as time goes on.

That said.

This was a BRILLIANT opener. From the introduction of the cast, the pacing, the dialogue and the story, this felt like a triple-sized issue to me. Just brilliant from start to finish.

I REALLY hope this maintains this trajectory because honestly I’m reading like... Excalibur, Hellions, New Mutants, X-Force and now this, and Excalibur and New Mutants are in the danger zone of being dropped for me.

EDIT: I think this is definitely the most queer book that the X-Men have ever had too. Daken and Prodigy as bisexual, and JP and Kyle representing gay men, I feel like this book’s already off to a strong start in terms of establishing a diverse cast. Also I’m now a fan of the terms “disaster bisexual” and “distinguished bisexual” as identifiers. I’d kindly ask the bi members of the forum to identify themselves to me immediately so that I may categorise you. Thanks babies XOXOX

I loved this, although i dont know that i agree about Daken's personality, but i havent read anything with him in a long time, i am really interested in Lorna's development, how it seems like she is going to be a focal point, and i guess David went through the crucible.

I think they left the Prodigy thing vague on purpose. This is the title that’s supposed to be dealing with suicide and gender dysphoria amongst other things, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if David took a calculated risk that his powers and absorbed knowledge made him an invaluable Krakoan resource so he killed himself to be repowered, but I guess we’ll see

I think he'd be clever enough to make it seem like it wasn't suicide but killed by someone else, even though that's what he wanted in order to be repowered.

Why the hell I am shipping Rachel/Daken?!?!? They didn't even interact properly this issue! It's probably their mutual disaster bisexual energy.

I loved this, thought it was great from start to finish.

It however has opened a desire in me....I want an entire issue devoted to a flashback of David going through the Crucible.

The combat skills of Wolverine & Captain America, acrobatics of Gambit, tactical prowess of Storm & Cyclops & Cable...synthesised together. I think he might take Apocalypse to the limit!

This is the first X-Men comic I read and actually really enjoyed. With nothing negative to say.

Loved how Polaris was as well and the HOM short reference.

What if David defeated Apocalypse?

Is there a thread on the Crucible yet??

Well it’s similarly to with Spidey’s spidey-sense, at least with Gambit’s acrobatics...his mind could know the skill but his body has to be able to do it (I believe part of Gambit’s agility isn’t just from natural ability but also power boosted)...

I love the premise of this title. I really like the odd cast and I love that Northstar is the leader. I like seeing how all of their powers contribute to solving the case. So I should love this right? Well I didn't love the execution because I found everyone so damn annoying. I think I would just rather have a more 'professional' investigative team rather than all this snarky bickering. I would think though that over time the team is going to get better at working together and this may improve. The Lorna and Magneto scene was really nice.

Baldeon is not my favorite on art (though I love his enthusiasm) but Silva was making things look real good with his colors.

I was really looking forward to this and it didn't disappoint. While the art isn't my favorite, there were a lot of panels that I really liked and I think the overall vision worked with the pacing and the script. The humor was also juxtaposed nicely with the emotional beats as well. Aurora's death is intriguing and think the premise of why this team comes together is totally understandable and ripe for great stories.

The character development and tones were mostly on point as well. This felt like a great refresher for Polaris who, I have missed being portrayed as thoughtful and considerate while also wielding an immense amount of power. Rachel returns to a bit more of her core character at her introduction, a slightly resentful and stoic person with some mystery. And she chromoskims! Sort of. That's fun. The inclusion of Amazing Boy was a little annoying to me at first, but it also adds a little mischief to Rachel so we'll see how it lasts. NorthStar too is written well enough, although I find him pompous, arrogant, and snarky but not aggressive and nasty. If he's experiencing hyper aggression out of anxiety and loss, so be it. Is he blocking a relationship between Prodigy and Daken ? Is that what I'm to infer? Not sure how I feel about that.

Minor complaints. Didn't need a snark moment from Emma. It felt forced and interrupted a pretty cool moment. Was also confused about the text swap and was like, "Is Goldballs Scottish?' I did not enjoy the commentary on NorthStar's hair on this thread, as my quarantine hair looks exactly the same. And, oddly enough the inclusion of Hope in this series made me consider her role in the 5 and that sent me into a little spin, but overall this was very enjoyable and felt fresh.

I agree, Baldeon is not my cup of tea yet the final product was good enough and I really enjoyed it.

I think the team roster is quite good, even if I agree Eye Boy was not a good fit for the book initially.
I do feel like Daken would be more interesting if they keep his personality intact as he was in Dark Avengers or his own book.
Lorna and Jean Paul were spot on, everytime they left flying I was like :D
Jean Paul was written perfectly as he should be, bitchy and rude at times, hidding his feelings and deep concern with this attitude.
Rachel and her chronoskimming was a surprise as I dont think she had done this before BUT it is a great way to develop her temporal abilities which are largely ignored by basically every writer except Alan Davis or Chris Claremont. Amazing Baby is everything I didnt know I wanted but now I love. Extremely good follow up to Excalibur.
Prodigy repowered was not exactly necessary yet its welcome. Is he really dating one of the Scarlet Witch's twins, Speed? Drama! Love it!!!!

The whole issue was pretty good, moving the story from A to B, setting the purpose of this team and establishing them away from other comunities in Krakoa which is actually a smart move.
I was not expecting this book to be so good, to be honest, Im looking forward to the next issue.
Spoiler: show
On a side note and as a wishful thinking: I wish Eyeboy would go elsewhere while Aurora stays (which might happy as she is amongst the new redesigns) and Iceman joins. I do feel that a team with Polaris, Phoenix (I refuse to call her Prestige), Northstar and Aurora, Prodigy, Daken and Iceman would be extremely powerful and interesting for the many possibilities and relationships between their members.

I honestly don't know how I felt about this. On paper, it is perfect and it's so delightfully camp which I so rarely see in a main x-title. I love the cast, I love the concept, it's totally me. Yet, and maybe because I just came off a reread of Weapon X that it just felt off. I'll give it another reread tomorrow and see if I change my mind (or if I can pinpoint what exactly I found off about it).

They literally call him by name in the panel, so this has been quite embarrassing for me. I guess I was too tired while I was reading.

I despised this art. I found parts of this quite good but parts of it to be doing tew much at once. Leah Williams has a messy, sassy, emotive writing style for which I am often an appreciative apologist (and which is perfect for a book like this in many ways) t but I wondered momentarily if I could stand it for a sustained ongoing. We'll see!
