What I do appreciate about this issue’s smaller scope is how much it really leans into the sense of alienation, powerlessness and frustration young people feel as they grow up.

Anyway.

Shela’s power confuses me. Apparently her swaps become obvious if she doesn’t act like the person she’s swapped with? But she’s still physically swapped places with them? I don’t understand.

Anyway.

Shela jumped in to a U-Man and is wandering around the base, sabotaging weapons and comes across Martha strapped to an operating table. Martha asks her to kill her and Shela refuses and Martha gets mad about that because she would rather be dead than Sublime’s slave again. Shela manages a second swap within her previous swap and changes places with Martha just as Sublime starts operating on her. Martha rescues Wolfsbane and Leo. The U-Man in the cell swaps back so he’s now on Sublime’s operating table and Shela’s in the cell with Morgan. Shela and Morgan and their flying turtle escape, Leo and Martha fight U-Men but then they run and hide. Wolfsbane finds out that the U-Men are making a new version of Kick, but one that would make a mutant subservient instantly. Shela and Morgan reach the roof and she realises it’s the roof from Destiny’s vision that Morgan’s going to fall to their death from.

So… I like this. I like Shela. The art wasn’t my favourite, but still. The writing’s cute, it’s very character focused and the writing team feels like a worthy successor to Vita and Reis.

Not my favorite title, but I will say I truly enjoy Martha getting some closure on her U Men story a LOT. I have a soft spot for that cute little brain in a jar who now has a body.
