Legion of X #4

Post by Blackcyclops » 03 Aug 2022, 14:45

I friggin knew it! Great last page(s) reveal…I very much look forward to the conclusion of this arc.
So on one hand we have the existence of a being who can reset the entire timeline, destroying everything…, and on the other hand we have a few mind wipes and some gaslighting. You're right, totally evenly weighted.

Issue of the week for me, but my BAMF bias is showing heavily here.

This was excellent, I thoroughly enjoy this every month (although it bothers me that due to timing, this is set waaaaaaay before AXE). The art is wonderful, the plot is a delight, and the writing just pops. Ugh. Love this.

Its wild that in 1 week we didn’t get a single weak x-title.

The power of a week without X-Force, Wolverine or Marauders 🤷‍♂️

Interesting, so the Arakki god on the run was Loki... in a way... lol

I like Zsen calling out Nightcrawler on how flexible/vague his interpretation of the law is, and Nightcrawler suggesting it's a feature, not a bug.

Kinda annoys me they put all the good titles in one week and then another week we get nothing except Gambit

Kurt already addressed it in Way of X:

So in one week we got a book about the power of faith and another about the weaknesses of faith. Coincidence or Jordan White being clever? 🤔

I feel like this is the issue we have been waiting for since Way of X started, where Kurt really dives down into his beliefs in the face of the new era. Where he ends up is still to be determined but I enjoy the journey.

Mental exercise: If it came down to throwing Nightcrawler in the pit or not (is it even still a thing after Sabretooth?), how would each member of the Council vote?
Best Comics of Week 37

X-titles: Astonishing Iceman #2 by Steve Orlando (2) and Vincenzo Carratu (2)
Non-X titles: Avengers Inc #1 by Al Ewing (2) and Leonard Kirk (2)

In parentheses number of times creator had best comic this year

CASE: Nightcrawler (Kurt Wagner)

CHARGE: Violation of the Third Law. Interpretation of "Respect this sacred land" to mean "Respect the authority of the Quiet Council", i.e., letting them judge people instead of letting the Legion do it.

EVIDENCE: Argument whether Nightcrawler, as a member of the Council, has / should have the right to judge cases without the full council's presence.

VERDICT:
Professor X - GUILTY. Because douche.
Destiny - Probably NOT GUILTY. Specifically to rib Xavier, but she always knows more than we do.
Hope - NOT GUILTY.

Storm - NOT GUILTY.
Colossus - NOT GUILTY. Sleeper agent in Colossus's head - Possibly GUILTY.
Nightcrawler - NOT GUILTY if allowed a vote.

Kate Pryde - NOT GUILTY.
Emma Frost - QUESTIONABLE. Depends on her mood, and the votes of others.
Sebastian Shaw - QUESTIONABLE. Depends on his mood, and the votes of others.

Mister Sinister - Probably GUILTY.
Exodus - QUESTIONABLE. Depends on his interpretation of the Spark and Kurt's "good works".
Mystique - Probably NOT GUILTY. Because he supported Destiny, because she doesn't care, etc.

2 - 6 GUILTYS.
5 - 9 NOT GUILTYS.

They will find a reason to throw Leech into the Pit too. Problem solved.

Even better, instruct Krakoa to sap enough energy from him so that his powers don’t work…

I have to say, the composite Trickster god look pretty bad-ass.

While I love everything about this, I honestly think Emma is a solid Not Guilty— in the rare instances where she and Kurt have interacted, she seems to be rather fond of him in a way that she isn’t of a lot of other X-Men

In the weirdest argument for Emma's adoration of Kurt, she was one of the names mentioned in her kinda sweet/kinda weird discussion about her grey hairs. So she's pretty firmly in the Not Guilty in my opinion. I think Mystique and Destiny would both be in Not Guilty as well due to family relationship. Rogue would basically skewer them both if they put Kurt in the pit.
