SWORD #2

Post by Blackcyclops » 13 Jan 2021, 13:16

Great tie-in!

So who is the fourth power boosting mutant? Any ideas? It’s a “she” and they have a relationship with someone who was or will be involved with the Snarkwar (see GotG or power pack). Any guesses?

These come to mind

Katie Power(Energizer, Snake Wars was a storyline)
Hope (ability to wake and boost (latent) powers)
Scrambler, but that is a man (can manupulate powers, also bringing them into overdrive)

Katie Power is not a mutant/

I haven't seen the issue yet, but could it be Chance, from Fallen Angels? Power-boosting mutant whose best friend Ariel is an alien?

Props to this issue for also answering the question of “are the five allowed in battle”.

Considering this is a tie-in to an event I have no interest in at all, I still enjoyed this. Between nice character moments, great art, and plot development, this feels about as packed as X-Factor does.

What’s her* connection to the SnarkWar?

I trust you Mono because you did pick out Mentallo.

Her. Chance was a thief working with Vanisher's Fallen Angels, had a crush on Sunspot. Good ol' "double or nothing" Chance had the mutant power to cancel another mutant's powers, or make them twice as strong. Not much of a joiner, which could explain the question of her loyalty. However, her best friend in the Angels was Ariel, the alien mutant teleporter from the Coconut Grove. Not a direct connection to SnarkWar, but maybe Coconut Grove is in the same system.

I don't know why she would be blacked out, but there doesn't seem to be much reason for Mentallo to be redacted last issue either.

It’s Ewing so it might all mean something later.

Chance was also my first thought when I read the page.

Chance was first introduced in the 80ies, same as the mentioned Michael Nowlan from X-Factor (1st series) #5.... and with the Coconut Grove having becoming evolutionary stale, there being no mutations in a million years except Ariel, and the Snarks out to steal super-powers, there could be a relation/connection.

Ariel's mutant power was not the teleporting, apparently that's a trained skill all her people have, but vocal manipulation/persuasion.

Then again it could be the current Snarkwar just started in the pages of Ewing’s GotG.
