it could very well be the X-Men’s final mission
I'm gonna go out on a very short limb here and say: it won't be.

(Also that title is stupid and shouldn't be used for an X-book, only makes sense for Avengers)

I agree on the title, but I guess it evokes what this is meant to be for the X-Men what the OG Disassembled was to the Avengers.

I'm optimistic, especially with some of my favourites appearing on that image (The New X-Men kids, Northstar, Polaris). And with Thompson and Rosenberg on the writing team I trust the story will be a good time for X-Fans

Yeah yeah, status quo shift blah blah.....what’s going on with Psylocke in that picture. Either the artist is seriously toning down her ethnicity or we are looking at pre-body switch Psylocke.

I was thinking that same thing about Psylocke.

Spoiler: show
Lots of people think she'll be going back into her original body at the end of the Madripoor mini, since the #4 issue has an alt-cover with her in her old body

I suggested in a review thread for that book [spoiler if you haven't read it] that she may just now be occupying Sapphire Styx's body.

First of all: That image is BOMB. I mean, they ruined it with the big disjointed X, but otherwise BOMB. So many of my faves on there, gives me hope that they'll be part of the X-Men again (although it's noticeably lacking Karma, Dani, Fantomex, Longshot, and Hope not that I care about the last two). It's nice that Bishop is back in the fold, and it's amazing to see the Young X-Men back on a cover like they exist again.

I love Thompson, so I'm all for this. Also, I noticed something that's very encouraging to me about the image--the women are front and center. Jean, Storm, and Kitty are the literal center, with Rogue and Havok taking the wing, so I'm assuming that's a sign of leadership/importance. Then Psylocke, X, Dazzler, Magik, Gambit, and Gabby round out the front and center X-people, and that's just amazing. It really emphasizes how the X-Women are the best any comics franchise has to offer.

Hate Psylocke's new costume, and not thrilled about her not being in Kwannon's body, either. And who is the bearded blond guy between Mercury and who I assume is Boom Boom?

I think that's Cypher. I also think the blonde girl next to Armor is Husk but not sure. It looks like she's tearing off her skin.

It's also very encouraging that the O5 are not in this group shot.

Well, Fantomex is currently dead. No sign of Cable either so I guess Hope is sitting things out too.

I take it that's Idie over on the far right? Who's between Nature Girl and Rockslide? (Rahne?)

Yes I was thinking it was Rahne too.

It's interesting Firestar is back for this. And you have Magma too, I'd like to see them and possibly Idie all interact.

No Hope, no O5,, that should make certain posters happy. :P

I’d take certain appearances on the cover with a pinch of salt. Some are obviously appearing in titles right now but others like Firestar just seem like filler.

I guess fixing Psylocke’s body can be seen as a sign of progress to some who thought her being in an Asian body was problematic...I mean idk

It’s not as if many of the artists drew her Japanese anyway. As long as it moves the character forward in sone way. She’s had brief moments back in her old body but it would be good to explore a longer stint and the effects it has on her.

I am surprised no one has mentioned the biggest omission from the image: Wolverine. There is basically a whole event celebrating his return from the dead but is he not returning to the X-Men?

I’m excited to have Psylocke back in her old body. It will be interesting to see if she retains her ninja skills or if she’ll start fencing with the baddies.

That would be interesting...Wolverine as basically like Punisher or Spidey back in the day: solo title and popping up in team books without being an actual member. I mean him not being an X-Man or Avenger would be a huge thing for wolverine I think

Yes I like that too, shifts away from Cyclops and Wolverine being the centre of things that was a few years ago. Really happy Jean has taken up the leadership role since her return.

Ok but regardless of how you feel about her body, you HAVE to admit that Psylocke costume is hideous, right? RIGHT? I mean, the off the shoulder cuffs, the weird thick unflattering lines, and the lavender/baby pink mix? Just...ugh. It's godawful. And she's had some bad costumes.

I just realized Cecelia Reyes has been around the mansion, and Chamber too, and they aren't on there

I completely forgot Fantomex "died" because I already completely forgot that whole book after like issue 6.

This is the first time I think you see an x-line that has Jean leading in place of Cyke or Logan or Xavier...cause I mean you think about the peak 90s you had Cyke for Blue, Storm for Gold, Kitty (I guess Brian too right?) for Excalibur, Cable (and Dom too right?) for X-Force and Havok and Val for X-Force...

Now I just wonder what aspect is Storm leading poat-Extermination...so excited

That image is awesome - but no Rictor or Monet either?

Love thaat Jean is front and center!

Excited for this, even if it is *another* status quo change.

Marvel keeps on trolling us X-men lovers with a "Oh maybe this is the end of the X-men". Its getting obnoxious.

Probably another big event thats ends only with a new status quo but not that much changed (some dead, some new teams, maybe a schism)

That announcement is like a collage of meaningless hype words. It's very telling that, by the end, I was completely apathetic.
Marvel ... It's time to stop. Sometimes, less is more.

As for the line-up, as much fun as it is to dissect the image, it just seems like a generic poster. I'm not sure the artist was given much insight into the new direction. I even doubt that the x-cut was part of the original design considering how it had the unfortunate effect of decapitating several characters (something that you'd think the artist would try to avoid).
If we're going into yet another relaunch I'd really like to see editorial take some time to think it through. Give all the characters a purpose/team and match up their uniforms (several characters are still wearing uniforms associated with defunct titles).

Even with the X across it, it’s still a jarring and pretty dope pic...better than that Finch cover from years back.
