Out of curiosity, why was Psylocke the first spotlight?

I don't know, of course, but I'd guess it's because she's one of the more prominent examples of the "popular character" and "confusing backstory" combination.

I honestly don't remember the specifics, but I do recall the general set-up for Spotlights.

UXN as we know it began when Dean Clayton's uncannyxmen.net merged with Peter Luzifer's Point of View website, which contained the earliest versions of the Villain Teams and Merged Minds articles. They, in turn, reached out to me as a contributor, and prior to UXN I had written up Word.docs in my spare time that became the templates for the Character Glossary and Spotlight sections. I had Proto-Spotlights written for every X-Men member at the time (which, remember, was only about 30 characters then), so we had a lot of material to work with.

Peter and Ruth liked the idea of Spotlights, and may have been planning something similar before I came aboard, I forget. One or the other was really interested in Psylocke at the time, so while we were working on converting my articles into a readable format (mine were first written as a single, big block of text without paragraph breaks, citations, or images), they put together the Psylocke entry using my basic style. Iceman, Beast, and Rogue followed from my articles, followed by Peter doing his personal favorite, Polaris. Just going off of our records, I see Summers Month followed after that, so that's likely why we didn't start with Scott or Jean.

98 Character Profiles? Wow! That's almost 100, isn't it?
