Marvel Snap

Post by tokenBG1009 » 26 Oct 2022, 19:40

Anyone playing? This game has been SO MUCH fun. Probably one of the friendlier mobile games I've played. Good amount of X-Men characters as well. Love how quick the games are. I've played so many mobile games where they demand all of your time. This one I can get 2-3 matches in in less than ten minutes.

I'd been looking for a mobile game to play and this is right up my alley. I was quite a bit upset that the Carnage/Spider stuff is locked behind a paywall, but this has become my go to time killer.

I got hooked over the weekend. The game has been pretty fun so far. I've already sunk money in to get the season pass and Captain America, but I'm planning on stopping there (until the next season pass)

One word of advice: The fast upgrades in the shop are bad, avoid them if you can. As you play more, credits get tougher to come by, and those fast upgrades are inefficient

I didn't know what this was and I am incredibly disappointed it is not a game where you are Peter Parker taking pictures of superheroes and villains as in Pokemon Snap.

I'm waiting to finish the Season Pass before I buy it. I'm almost certainly going to make it, but I'm always a little paranoid I'll run out of time.

This was an extremely satisfying game. My opponent snapped on turn 5 because I was far behind everywhere, but I had plans for Bar Sinister

(Blue Marvel gives every card +1 power; with the board full that's 15 power per card)

I love the chaos of this game. I have a couple of decks I depend on when I just need to win games (Moon Devil has been my go to lately- it took me way too long to realize how well Moongirl and Devil Dino combo), but I also keep a deck called "mess" that consists of all my grey cards for when I want to farm boosters without actually trying to win. The thing is, I'm 6-2 with my latest iteration.

It's a complete jumble of cards with no rhyme or reason, but that chaos really creates opportunity. I shut down a fairly empty location with Storm on turn 2 thanks to the place that gives an energy as long as its empty. My opponent rushed to fill it turn 3, and ended up 8 points ahead of me.

I got out a turn 4 vision, hulk-bustered him on turn 5, and moved him over turn 6 to swipe that spot and lock it down. Then a lucky Jubilee pulled Sword Master and secured a second location as well. I never really thought about pairing Storm and Vision together, but it's quite potent, and I never would have played it if not for my jumble deck

lol I thought the exact same thing on seeing the thread title.

The only card games of this sort I've played regularly have been Hearthstone, and Gwent I guess, but I like the concept so decided to give this a whirl. It's pretty decent actually, the games go nice and quick as mentioned (6 rounds, simultaneous playing) but there's still some fun strategy with the three areas to place cards and special abilities. Some cards are better than others but doesn't seem to be to the same extent as other games, which is nice. I got to Iron tier without losing a game though and I do wonder how many of my games have been against CPU opponents rather than real people. Not that I'd mind a vs-AI game, but I'd like to know! The amount of types of currency/exp etc are a bit confusing too (as well as missions, dailies, season pass etc, I haven't bought anything but I'm still unlocking things on like three different tracks?) but I guess that's to be expected for games of this monetization design.

I don't think I have enough cards yet to make anything different from just a standard deck but might be interesting enough eventually to try and design a deck.

I think initially you play a mix of AI and real people -but now I've been playing it a few weeks it seems to mostly be against real people from what I can tell.
Doesn't take you long to build up a full deck - and figuring out how some of them work together is just brilliant - really enjoying it

Still playing and can't wait for this game to get direct challenge. It's so fun and an amazing way to spend a few minutes when waiting on things.

You mean pick people you play against? I can't see how they'd implement that without turning off all the stakes (cubes, missions, etc), otherwise it'd be too easy to game the system.

But i agree, the game is still a blast. I'm really excited that the new update brought a new way to select new cards instead of just leaving everything to chance.

They've got plans for a direct battle mode that sounds like it'll be fun. Cubes won't be on the line, but I imagine missions will still be able to be completed.
The mode will bring a twist to the game's Snap mechanic. In ranked mode, players play for ranked points, with the Snap mechanic effectively serving as a way to double down on the amount of ranked points on the line. As it wouldn't exactly be fair to bet ranked points on matches between friends, Battle mode will instead introduce a HP system. Each player will have 10 HP, with the number of points on the line for a given match instead affecting the losing player's HP pool as opposed to rank. Battle mode matches will consist of multiple rounds, and the first player to lose all their HP will lose the match.

Interesting. I'm glad they are adding more variety, but I kind of like the "one and done" nature of the current game. I read early on that one of the concepts of the game is that it wouldn't leave you sitting on the toilet for too long while you play, and I feel like battle mode is going to draw it out.

Still, there's obviously a market for that, so it's nice that folks will be able to choose a mode that fits their playstyle.

I think the games are fast enough that a Best 2 of 3, assuming snapping is possible, wouldn't take too long. It could definitely be drawn out if both players are sheepish about gambling their points.

Plus it'll do AMAZING stuff for content creators to host tournaments in stuff as long as there's a decent spectator mode.

Been playing this a lot recently, finally finished up getting all my pool 2 cards recently, and hit 500 (which apparently opens up the new shop with the tokens and such). Not sure how I feel about it, tokens definitely seem like a good idea for people who already have all the cards, but it seems to slow down the card acquisition in general (as before you unlocked a new card every few set level increases, now you instead get the random chests which often have credits or orbs in them instead of new cards).

Rank-wise, got up to 40 with no problem, then around there started having trouble. Started reading up more on the game, looking up deck discussion, watching a few streamers here and there, built a few new decks and was able to get up to the 50s. Got as high as 53 and then went on a big cold streak and tumbled down all the way to mid-40s at one point. I originally liked the concept of the snapping but now I'm not so sure. Against reasonably smart players, if you're obviously losing you should retreat, and if you're obviously winning they will retreat, only netting the victor 1 cube, so the only chances to win a lot of cubes are by surprise or 50/50 plays at the end which can get streaky. Part of it is not knowing/having all the cards yet, so sometimes the losses are just due to not knowing what could come and being surprised. I guess that's skill/knowledge so not necessarily a bad thing but it does make me want to just never snap and retreat as soon as the other guy does and play conservatively, which isn't as fun.

I had been running a Jubilee deck and a "on reveal"/control deck that originally got me up to 50, but the latter seemed to have fizzled out once I hit deck level 500, and now I'm running a slightly different Jubilee deck. Only a few pool 3 cards so far including both Thor and Jane Thor, wondering how to use them.

Did have an interesting game with the Bar Sinister location. Other guy had put a Hulk Buster there which multiplied then combined into a single 16-strength card. Then last turn he played Arnim Zola there. The first one destroyed the HB and replicated two others elsewhere. The second one destroyed another Arnim Zola and replicated THAT elsewhere. Then for some reason the new Arnim Zola proc'd (rather than the remaining two at the Bar Sinister) and copied a real card elsewhere... yeah it got nuts lol.

Really looking forward to the Battle Mode, as I got one of my friends into playing this and I think it'd be fun to play against someone I know.

Still haven't spent any money but given the time I've spent on this I should probably at least pay the $3 for the welcome pack.

I've been picking up the season pass because it's good value. The collector tokens are a huge improvement over what was before. Which was nothing. I've picked up a few characters through the tokens, but I haven't made the absolute best decisions with it.

I did finally buy the welcome pack (mainly so I could nab a Jubilee variant, I was 80 gold short). I hadn't bought the season pass since I wasn't too interested in the specific cards/variants (BP seems cool but not must-have, didn't really like the look of any of the variants), but didn't really crunch the numbers on the value of gold/credits/etc yet before I got into the game some more.

Funny enough looks like there's been some outcry over the changes to the season pass. Up to $10, and no more variants in the free track, only the paid one.

Looks like this season the paid one gets you:
Silver Surfer card
200 boosters (across Surfer, Collector, Infinaut)
7 variants (Surfer, Collector, Infinaut, 4 random)
2 titles
3 portraits
800 gold
300 credits
Surfer card back

Not bad I guess (especially since the regular price is 700 gold for $10), though I'll still probably skip this one given my usual aversion to battle passes. If there's ever an X-Men one I'll probably buy that one immediately though lol.

Marvel Snap won Mobile Game of the Year last night. They've also got a pretty neat music video/ad for the upcoming bundles.

If you log in you'll get a SICK Storm variant art.

Someone noted some minor controversy as they showed a section of the video at The Game Awards last night, but cut the section of Sera and Angela kissing out. Also, there just aren't many prominent gay men at Marvel in dedicated relationships.

Biggest thing to know is priority, who flips first, is indicated by the highlighted name.

If a card is flipped, it does not impact cards that are face down so playing cards in the right order is important. For example, dropping Carnage and then Nova is wrong because you WANT Carnage to eat Nova and buff your team so play it in the opposite order.

Do not spend your credits on fast upgrades. They slow you down in the long run.

Never be afraid to retreat. If you can't find a winning play then retreat. Losing 1 cube is better than losing 2, 4, or 8.

There are plenty of decks in the Pool 1 (Up to Collector Level 212) that are viable forever. Sam's with Pool 2 (up to collector level 474).

So I’m really enjoying this game. So simple yet quite tactical. I wish there was a way for me to track down individual characters I want, rather than relying on luck of the draw as I level up.

Does anyone spend gold? It seems to come so infrequent that I will really have to think what to buy with it.

Once you hit Collector Level 500 the token shop opens up and you get an initial 3000 tokens that you can spend to try and target specific characters. The shop rotates three times a day and Pool 3 characters cost 1000 tokens each. I believe Pool 4 cost 3000 each and Pool 5 cost 6000 each.

It's a nice system if not a bit of a pain because tokens don't exactly flow so you need to be very picky with where you use them.

Gold is infrequently frequent. I think I saw you get about 1k/mo. I save mine to try and buy the bundles that take gold.

I started grabbing variants that I like. The bundles are too expensive for me to ever settle on one, but dropping 700-1200 ocassionally lets me nab a new card every couple of weeks. This is my latest grab, and I love it

Kazar, Blue Marvel, Onslaught, and a bunch of 1 cost cards is one of the best decks you can make at your level.
