I don’t care how pretty the actors are or how upbeat the music is, if you play the same Xeljanz advert 6 times in a 45 minute episode, all I’m going to remember is “tears in the stomach and intestine,” “cancers, including lymphoma,” and “increased risk of death.”

Jesus, what a terrible marketing campaign.
Isn't that most pharma advertising?
Maybe. But if the advert played only once a week or so, I’d remember the brand and the illness, but not the laundry list of horrifying side effects.

Anyhow, I forgot how bad these shows are. Nonetheless, it’s been fun to watch. Except for Benoist’s bangs. Whose bad idea was that?
Just think, in some countries, it's illegal for pharmas to advertise.

As it was here until the late 1990’s.

Nia Nal/Dreamer, she's the ancestor of the Legion character.

You might be interested to know, she's a trans woman, played by a trans actress.

Cool. Never heard of the actress or the character, but I’m glad she can get work without too much hullabaloo.

I give CW a lot of credit for their faith in the audience. They haven’t been afraid to throw both high-concept comic book sci-fi (multiverses, time travel), and low brow comic book schlock (team-ups, secret fortresses) at the fans. I doubt we’d have had Endgame if we hadn’t had the CW shows first.

You were certainly giving the Crossover what for, but I totally agree. I still really enjoy Legends and to a lesser degree Flash and Supergirl. I think if you decide to watch these shows more for the characters than the plots, they can be good fun.

This is the third time I’ve taken up watching the CW shows after a long break. Every time, it’s immediately apparent how terrible the acting, scripting, directing, plotting, action and effects are. And every time, after the fourth or fifth episode of a binge, that awfulness starts to blur, and I get engaged in seeing what’s going to happen next. But it’s always just numbness; I actually stop paying much attention and just have it playing in the background to see where it goes. If I focus in more than a few minutes, the dialogue always makes me cringe.

I appreciate the ambition, and like I said I think it opened doors by trying things that used to be considered too comic-book-y for live action. But they’re not good shows.

One thing they do way to much is have the protagonists all just standing in a line, all in the same artificial pose. Or walking in a mob, all together, nobody lagging behind or looking around. The director just said, “come in together and walk down the steps,” and they do and it looks ridiculous. Like the scene where Sara goes to Oliver’s HQ and tells Diggle & co. he’s dead. Oliver’s crew is all walking in formation. People aren’t that synchronized in real life.

Legends is a gem...it’s like Doctor Who. This isn’t meant to be True Detectives but, at least for Legends, the characters act just as “real” as those on any network procedural.
Morrison Era 2001-2005, Decimation Era from 2005-2012, Bendis Era 2012-2016, M-Pox era 2016-2017, and Resurrxion 2017-2019, Hickman Era 2019-?

I confess I haven’t watched Legends outside of the crossovers. Mostly because the lead actress irritates me. I can never tell if she’s smirking or crying. And that corset they make her wear looks ridiculous. But CW really wants to sell her as a central figure next to Arrow, Supergirl and Flash.

I don't think I've focused on a CW show since the first seasons. They're all just shows I watch while I'm working, my phone propped up beneath my monitor on the corner of my desk. They aren't complicated shows so there's little need to give it 100% of my attention.
