Shazam! movie

Post by LimboMaster » 22 Jul 2018, 17:25

New trailer is out:

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls022466419/v ... 1992801049

This looks awesome. Spot on take on Shazam as a kid in a man's body. This is just what DCEU needs to recover from Batman v Superman and Justice League dark and brooding effort to kill the franchise. WW shouldn't have to do it all by herself.

My wife, who's been indoctrinated into Marvel by marriage to me, knows nothing about DC beyond Smallville and the Arrowverse. She's laughing at the idea there's a hero called Shazam and keeps walking about the house quoting Foxy Cleopatra from Austin Powers Goldmember and karate chopping "Shazam!"

 It does sound totally silly when you think about it. I miss the good 'ole days when he was Captain Marvel and everyone just called him Shazam by mistake. Oh copyright infringement.

I know the gist about Shazam/Captain Marvel but now that his name is officially Shazam in the comics (and film) how does he introduce himself? Any time he says his name doesn't he transform back into Billy Batson?

In the comics I believe he's still allowed to call himself Captain Marvel, his comic just can't be TITLED Captain Marvel.
Marvel vs DC Draft: Wonder Woman|Thor|Ares - DC|Shazam!|Hercules|Loki|Dream of the Endless|Valkyrie|Ares - Marvel
Thunderbolts Draft: Punisher|Black Cat|Moon Knight(as Kraven the Hunter)|Diamondback|Taskmaster|Domino|Nuke|Trickshot |Jolt|Troll

Whilst the character can be called Captain Marvel is it not the case that he's officially Shazam in the comics now?

According to Wikipedia, "Since the 2011 reboot, Shazam's powers have been slightly altered. Speaking the magic word word "Shazam" does not cause a transformation if Billy does not want it to, and can be used to cast magic spells other than the transformation." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_M ... DC_Comics)

No idea what issue(s) that info is based on but there you go.

Yeah starting with the New 52 (reasons I gave up reading DC) Billy became Shazam to keep it simple and got his powers tweaked. I guess they ran out of "___ Of Shazam" Titles.

Between this & Aquaman, who would’ve expected horror directors to make DC’s most lighthearted movies? I didn’t understand why The Rock couldn’t be both Black Adam & Shazam, but Zach Levi is an appropriately wholesome goofball as The Big Red Cheese.

I quite enjoyed it, made for a fun movie that feels like the DCEU continuing to move in the right direction. Mary is super-cute.

Totally agree. Lighthearted and fun. I thought they were all super cute. Casting was excellent. My only gripe is the format of the credits because it was totally swiped from Deadpool, but I can live with that since DCEU is starting to make good decisions.

They’ve announced the same screenwriters have been hired to write the sequel. The Black Adam prequel movie, which will probably be less fun, is probably going to be made first though.
