Given that the soap-opera is by and large my favorite aspect of CC's writing, that explains why I like the Flash so much lol

It's way better than Arrow where they hide every possible secret about themselves from each other and then flip the hell out when they find something out. "YOU LIED TO MEEEEE!"

Yeah, that schtick gets pretty tired pretty fast. Especially since 80% of the lies and secrets are completely pointless.

We did already. Both seasons combined are equivalent to one live action episode.

So, who is HR, really? He's not the hapless simpleton he pretends to be. His story isn't just "there's wisdom in simplicity." He's playing a role, but what it is I'm not sure.

It just wouldn't be Flash without a Harrison Wells mystery.

Does anyone in the real world actually use transparent, glass dry-erase boards? Or is that just a TV thing?

I had a co-worker who would draw notes like that on his windows.

It seems less practical as a presentation tool than a white board because all the stuff behind it would make it more difficult to read.

Wow, the drama in this episode was really artificial. Cisco challenging her to a dual to the death was dumb. Barry refusing to interfere is stupid. The "duel to the death" ends with her just quitting.

I decided that "To the death" is a phrase they use that means "we half-fight for a while until one of us gives up and then we go get ice cream" in her dimension.

At this point, I'm assuming HR is gay and had a really nasty split with his business partner/SO. He left his world to get a fresh start on things or to get space.

His SO exiled him because he wouldn't shut up about his damn fanfic.

Pretty sure the opening "last episode" reel contained several plot-advancing clips that have not been in any episode.

Not a fan of Grod, and the plot to this ep was really threadbare.

I like Grodd, and I understand budget restraints, but it was cheesy to me to have 90% of an episode set in Gorilla City to be in a jail cell.

Cheesy and dull.

This was an ambitious story hamstrung by budgetary constraints. I just don’t care because I’m an easy mark for psionic simians! https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/20 ... the-flash/

“Super Friend” by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom was easily the best song, yet nothing was as electrifying as Professor Stein spontaneously belting out “The Banana Boat Song” during Apollo 13. (A rendition so nice, Legends of Tomorrow played it twice!) Setting the musical as only a shared superhero coma hallucination was unnecessarily wasteful as half the episode was boringly non-musical. If the folie à deux was only a musical because Kara & Barry love them, then what makes this blandly attired antagonist the Music Meister? Since he was an omnipotent fourth wall breaker, why wasn’t he Mr. Mxyzptlk instead of the skeevy one they served up less than ninety days ago? Why bother breaking up the lead couples of two shows just to flimsily stick them back together an episode later? https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/20 ... this-week/

I agree, EMP. "Duet" had the potential to be one of the most fun hours of TV I've seen since 30 Rock hit the bricks. Song-and-dance meets silver-age camp.

Instead it fell kind of flat. The reason is they didn't embrace the conceit far enough. They insisted on pulling us out of the musical to advance the season-long arcs. It would have been simple to put Barry and Kara in that world by Mxyptl's mischief, spend the hour in that world, learn the lesson to escape, and not have to involve the teams on the outside at all. Perhaps a story where Barry's too uptight to sing or dance until he Learns a Valuable Lesson about loosening up, and when he joins into the finale song that breaks the spell. By Learning A Valuable Lesson about not having a stick up his a$$, his arc with Iris moves the same direction and the season plots are advanced in the same way, but less is more in telling that story in this episode.

Don't get me wrong, the song and dance was fun and it was one of the best episodes in a while, but it could have been WAY better.

Oh I was referring to the episode this week...I liked the musical episode too though.
