The Doctor Who reboot is another that directly references its predecessor being canon.

It was a good show but seeing Kang just reminds me of why I dislike the character in the comics: when you mess too much with time and alternate realities, it is really hard to stay logically consistent.

Even on a thematic basis, is the show coherent? It seems to have something to say about the importance of free will, but in a multiverse doesn't free will start to become meaningless? I can choose whether to do A or B, but apparently I do both, and so on into infinity.
Upon further reflection, maybe I am being too harsh here. While a multiverse might weaken the idea of free will, the show does perhaps still have something to say about how your decisions decide who you will become. Technically you make decisions A and B, but who results from those is different. And there is something significant in that and in who "our" Loki is.

Because it's not really a reboot, it's a continuation of the old series...

The trailer looks awesome!

It will be very interesting to see the viewership for this. Loki season 1 was the peak for Marvel TV and it has been in decline since. Does that large audience come roaring back, or is the 'superhero fatigue' real?

I didn't think it was possible, but season 2 looks like it'll be even more fun than season 1.

I must say, I'm not as enthusiastic...

Some bits look fun (the Victorian era world's fair type thing looks great and appeals to a slightly steampunky vibe) but I do think Loki's not quite as 'mischievous' as you'd expected for the God of Mischief, Hiddlestone's definitely been great at that slant of Loki in earlier MCU outings, so I'd like to see him bring a bit more of that conniving little shit mannerisms and language back for S2, with him not really playing into that too much into S1.

I thought the whole point of Loki’s arc is that he’s supposed to not be the exact same person he was in the beginning? Otherwise, wouldn’t he be stagnant?
So on one hand we have the existence of a being who can reset the entire timeline, destroying everything…, and on the other hand we have a few mind wipes and some gaslighting. You're right, totally evenly weighted.

I don't know. What is Loki's arc?

Does it necessitate him being gloomy and boring?

Well if it makes sense from the perspective of the story, then him being “gloomy” makes sense. Let’s recall everything that led to Loki’s life until the end of S1. I think it’s reasonable to think a person would mature from being a petulant child to something else…angsty teen? i guess lol

The boring part is a subjective take, that you have and isn’t necessarily shared by others. So that one I can’t speak on lol

I guess I think - why was/is Loki the best villain in the MCU? Part of it for me, is that sheer sense of chaotic fun that surrounds him. Even by Infinity War and the brief reconciliation with Thor before he was killed by Thanos (I know, not the same Loki as the Loki in Loki... eugh...the multiverse) there was still some of that conniving little shit'isms even whilst on the general side of good, in his feigning of fealty to Thanos.

I just felt bar the first couple of episodes he went a bit flat in Loki S1.

I know there's the argument about character arcs, but I also think strong characters still need a core to them.

I can see what you saying, I disagree about the journey though. I think he got better as the school progressed because it felt like he actually started to see the stakes of what was happening and grew up in some ways. I think events at the very end really became a situation where he had to play the adult in the room. And Hiddleston did a fantastic job imo of selling that and keeping it entertaining.

I do think he’s a far cry from the asshole who first showed up in Thor but I don’t expect him to be the same way as the protagonist. Because now we have more insight into his inner world and seeing things from his perspective,
