I'm continuing my streak of ignoring the previous discussions to say "Look at my kitten!"

This is Zelda. She's very shy and timid. But seemed to get more confident when she's up on your shoulder like a parrot. It's early days, and she likes to hide a lot, but I think we're going to make some great pirate jokes soon. I should've named her Polly.

It's not my favourite but I always had a laugh at imaging Burn by Aussie artist Tina Arena as a psychopathic murder by arson song

"I want you to buuuuuurrrrnnn! Burn for me baby! Like a candle, in the night!"

Pretty sure she's setting people on fire

Wait a minute. You have a singer named Tina Arena? That's... fabulous. And, like, somehow the most Aussie thing my American heart can imagine.

Yes, they do. And actually Tina Arena also was internationally recognized with her bondage-themed song "Chains". (I'm not making that up)

Sarah Brightman's bondage-themed "Once In A Lifetime" is better.

Master and Servant by Depeche Mode is surely the best S+M orientated pop track.

Certainly better than Rihanna’s when she ripped off a good 80% of her lyrics from badges and patches I used to own as an “oh so misunderstood” teenager nearly 10 years prior...

It’s a great song, but you can’t talk about “the best S+M oriented pop track” without the Velvet Underground’s Venus in Furs, or Reed’s Walk on the Wild Side.

*does the Nina Bonina point at "Venus in Furs"*

Venus in Furs and Diamond Dogs will always be on my Emma Frost playlist.

I never realised how deeply messed up Tina Arena truly is. Here I thought she was just a conventional 90s Aussie pop star

The superior follow up to The Last Airbender. I don’t care if that’s a hot take or not, Korra was my fave. Especially love the sheer number of celebrity cameos they got to provide voices for that series too, even if I didn’t quite realise that Kuvira’s voice actor was Zelda Williams until last year some time

I'll give you Venus in Furs, but Walk on the Wild Side isn't strictly about S+M.

Not strictly.

Edit: I guess I misremembered the lyrics. I thought one of the verses was explicitly about S+M, but I guess not.

I love that Reed wrote songs like this. Reed was profiling four actual friends of his. It was a love letter. He was willing to write, “look at us, we’re junkies, we’re queer, we’re prostitutes, and we’re gorgeous and deserve to be seen.”

Googling about, I found an article about a LGBTQ+ student group in Canada that found it offensive and demanded an apology from the event organizers that played it. History, people. Learn it.
