Well, where do we line up?
I didn't think about it until I opened this thread, but I was looking up old pictures of Bill Kaulitz today. I only recently began considering myself pan within the last couple years, but that bud was blooming back in 2010.

Happy Pride Month! I'm not curious but I'm kind of easy so maybe if @Das_boot feeds me and tells me I'm pretty we can still make out.

So I’m in the midlands for a friend’s wedding… I did NOT check the room I booked so now I have my 6’1 ass self somehow in a single bed and in the tiniest room I think I’ve ever stayed in… the shower/bathroom is almost the same size as the actual bedroom

i miss the days when this topic autopruned. I didn't look at it for a while, & now the pages have multiplied to the point where I'll never catch up.

It didn’t auto-prune. It used to be Medium or me who would do it and I’ve just gotten lazy because it’s very time consuming to do it on my phoneEvilMonkeyPope wrote: ↑04 Jun 2023, 18:18i miss the days when this topic autopruned. So I was at a fusion wedding this weekend, and have now experienced my first Hindu wedding. Folks, I’m here to tell you that Hindu weddings are JUST correct.

Yes, they have the perfect amount of pomp, circumstance, kitsch, fun and food…like, don’t get me wrong, I love my Black folks and a Jewish wedding (especially an expensive one) is something out of a Hollywood film) but the four Hindu weddings I’ve been too, actually looked and felt like something out of a dream.
So on one hand we have the existence of a being who can reset the entire timeline, destroying everything…, and on the other hand we have a few mind wipes and some gaslighting. You're right, totally evenly weighted.

Re: Re: Random Thoughts
BC that’s exactly it, it could have been a dream! Like, from start to finish it was just so high energy! When I asked the bride’s cousins about it, they said the priest was the best one they’ve ever had at a wedding because he stopped and explained each step to the guests, which apparently never happens (and I’m assuming because he looked around and realised there was quite an even split of people who knew what was going on, and people who wouldn’t). It was a really long day but it was also just absolutely beautiful. The traditional Hindu vows are so much more holistic seeming than the ones from other weddings I’ve been to, and of course THE OUTFITS.
Speaking to the bride afterwards she did say that she’d wondered if any of the white/non-Hindu guests were going to wear traditional outfits too, and I honestly wish that I’d asked if that was okay or not because a) they looked waaaaaaay more comfortable than a suit (that I’ve somehow simultaneously lost weight in certain areas and gained it in others since I last wore it), and b) when am I ever going to get the chance to wear something like that again?
Just such a beautiful day and I’ve since fallen in to a YouTube research hole regarding Hindu mythology because it’s WILD.

Re: Re: Random Thoughts
I've been to a few Hindu weddings as well, and they are a blast! I frankly love the tradition of heaping the bride with family jewelry too. One of my besties who is herself Hindu talked about that tradition and how it made her feel so connected to the women in her family, especially after hearing how some of the jewelry came into the family and was passed down.
Also, das, it's often tradition for Hindu families to invite the other guests to wear traditional garb and you are correct, it's much more comfortable but still looks incredible on everyone. I wish white people liked color as much as other ethnicities and races. Our weddings are so white, white, white, maybe with some black or dark blue and if it isn't winter you may get a bright color for bridesmaid dresses.

Re: Re: Random Thoughts
I think you’d prolly want to swap out white for Western since I think most Westernized people have the same white dress color palette for their wedding (the exceptions are becoming more common as people want to buck tradition and wear off-whites or red) and then they throw color on the groom and stuff.

Re: Re: Random Thoughts
Fair, BC, though I meant also for decor/guests outfits. I see a lot of boring colors on guests all the time, so it's fun to go to a non-white wedding and see people wear like, hot pink and stuff. My hubby has a teal suit he wears and he always gets complimented cuz a lot of men are just wearing brown/black/dark blue. But yes, fair. Western weddings have a lot less color.
Edit: This has not applied to Western LBGT weddings I've been to, they seem to have more freedom from tradition which also tends to buck the color palette.

Re: Re: Random Thoughts
Feeling SLIGHTLY basic-bitch shamed for my blue suit, but I paired it with a floral shirt so

I also loved that their were games included in the ceremony— like it’s tradition for the bride’s family to “scheme” to steal the groom’s shoes and he basically has to pay to get them back

Re: Random Thoughts
I wore a navy suit, white shirt and ivory waistcoat for my wedding.
KING BASIC, innit.
Though that's my (lack of) fashion sense all over. Band/geek or footy t-shirts, paired with navy jeans or black jeans, hi-top Vans is my go-to casual clobber.
If I'm trying to smarten myself, I might wear a casual basic shirt (usually blue, black, or occasionally a white checked shirt (plaid?)
Work clothes are blue/black jeans and a blue (light or navy) shirt.
Do not test my basic.

Re: Re: Random Thoughts
Almost all of the weddings I've been to only have one or two colors beyond black and white. The two wedding parties I've been in each had only one; emerald for the first and lilac for the second. It was incorporated into the bridesmaid dresses and the groomsmen vests.
I have to be careful or I turn into a mobster or a bouncer when I put on a suit, so I tend to go understated in them. Once, someone legit thought I was security at a wedding I attended.

Hey remember how a few pages back we had a tame but interesting debate about the possibility of extraterrestrial life, well here’s something to chew on (kind of long):

Oh I was referred the link from Politico…there’s a decent amount of NYT references in it and a NY Mag article on it too (here: https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/0 ... -tech.html). And you can search the army guys name…again, I’m a skeptic but still something to chew on.Anna Raven wrote: ↑06 Jun 2023, 18:14Haha not to spoil the fun, but what's the reliability of that website?![]()
