How about a WIN?!Spectral Knight wrote: ↑21 Nov 2022, 15:56Iran are NOT getting a draw against Wales. Not a chance.Cable wrote: ↑21 Nov 2022, 15:11Well congrats to Team England for doing exactly what you were expected to do against Iran.
I am of two minds on the US facing Wales today. I wish this game wasn't first because if we lose then we have to go through the other games pretty dispirited. I would rather we play England and Iran first and get an expected W-L and then give everything we have against Wales.
But then of course is the other thought that if this is the most important game in the group for us then I suppose it is best we do it first fresh without possible injuries, cards, etc
If I have to guess I think we and Wales get a draw today and getting out of the group becomes all about goal differential. Unless Iran could get a draw against Wales too but I'm not sure I could bring myself to cheer for Iran lol (not a knock against the people of that country, many who have bravely taken the streets this year despite risk of death, but rather not wanting the regime to have any kind of propaganda victory opportunity)
As long as the US doesn't fall on its face we should be through to the next stage!

Re: Random Thoughts
My predictions / thoughts have been SHOCKING. TBH, Wales were shit, and as much as Iran were a bit 'naughty' in their shenanigans, they definitely deserved the win. At least you didn't call out my "if Costa Rica get a point this afternoon..." and promptly got hammered 7-0...
Personal wants - close win for England today (would prefer a one-goal margin), then the US to beat Iran to go through on GD (I do want the US to go through, but not at the expense of England wins
), and the Wales/England game to be a dead rubber.
What I expect - a win by more than one goal margin for England tonight, US to probably beat Iran, and Wales to earn a drawn against England. US still to go through, but it'll be a nervy end to the group stage.
Watch this go completely tits up. Don't ever let me gamble on matches.

We will take a draw! That was a fun game for being 0-0. On the bright side for you the Wales game will be more exciting nowSpectral Knight wrote: ↑25 Nov 2022, 14:02

Re: Random Thoughts
Argh, England were terrible. Poor pressing, terrible distribution and a complete lack of movement off the ball when we did manage to win possession.
Saka and Sterling were passengers for too long.
Complaints aside, I was very impressed by the US team. Much more organised than against Wales, with the workrate off the ball and closing of the lines very good.
Cable, you must be pleasantly surprised as well as very frustrated in some ways, as the US were by far the better team, and if a little more clinical in the final third, should have beaten us. Though you should be hopeful of getting through - if you play as well as you did tonight, you should beat Iran, though obviously my assertions so far have been a bit... off.

I’m so annoyed at 0-0 draw. My understanding was that the loser of the match was punished with full custody of James Corden.

The Corden rip off of Gervais' routine was brilliant in its shamelessness.
I mean, I'm not a massive Ricky Gervais fan (though Afterlife was fantastic) but how did Corden think he'd get away with it?

I always appreciate when the US and other countries make a deal that "Loser gets X" because it goes to show how much we hate everyone. Black Twitter was going on about how loser would have to keep rapper 21 Savage. Every time Canada and the US play it's for custody of Justin Bieber.

I simply cannot tolerate Gervais or Corden. I would wish for both of them to be sent to the depths of the Marianas Trench alongside Megatron. Same with Jimmy Carr and the posher Jimmy Carr who’s name escapes me at the moment.Spectral Knight wrote: ↑26 Nov 2022, 11:53The Corden rip off of Gervais' routine was brilliant in its shamelessness.

I don't mind Carr when he's not reading out scripts. His own lines can be very good, but he can be a bit pedestrian on some of the panel shows but his stand up is generally a bit cleverer.
I don't know who you mean by a posher Jimmy Carr though. Michael Macintyre is the only person I can think of, and he's not to my taste at all, but he's very good at what he does for family, prime time audiences.

I agree with you about Carr, his early style, the way he delivered his material was a bit stilted and I know his laugh can annoy some people but he can be genuinely funny, especially when he's given some leeway outside of the scripted stuff such as on 'cats does countdown'Spectral Knight wrote: ↑27 Nov 2022, 20:05I don't mind Carr when he's not reading out scripts. Don't forget on the wrestling front, USA has claimed William Regal for years. His heel mannerisms are incredible, best facial reactions ever.

Re: Re: Random Thoughts
Like I said, he's not to my taste but I do respect his craft. He is good in his niche of safe, family entertainer. Would I pay money to see him? No, not at all, but I can appreciate why he wins work.
Regal's comic timings are spot on. He is happy to play the farce (him being "pinned" by the Big Show after knocking him out with the brass knucks is hilarious), but when he turns on the intensity he can be the authority figure you root for like on NXT, or the most vile villain. His "Richard III" run in 2008 after winning KOTR honestly looked like he was being pushed for a main event feud after tapping out Punk, but shame his demons rearered their head at this time.
You may mock the accuracy of my predictions (...and to be fair, they've been awful) but England did top the group on 7 points, and US qualified 2nd, so not a terrible forecast. Except for my massive oversell of Wales' competence, which I'm not too upset. In fact, them being more rubbish than I thought makes it funnier.Spectral Knight wrote: ↑18 Nov 2022, 17:47I think the group will end:
England 7 (wins against the US and Iran, draw the Welsh game)
US 6 points
Wales 4 points
Iran - whipping boys.
I'm delighted for the US, but they face a tough match against the Dutch.

The US team just comes out like world beaters in the first half and then fade away in the second. I don't know why it is (losing Pusilic certainly didn't help today), but if they continue this trend of going up early and and then hanging on for dear life I'm going to get an ulcer.

I was seven when Summerslam '92 took place, so I was a proper Davey Boy mark as a kid and whilst he was more charismatic than his cousin, the Dynamite Kid was actually a far better wrestler...shame he was also a drug addled lunatic (not that DBS lived a quiet sensible life, either...).
