Personal iconic costumes

Post by Rincewind » 01 Jul 2016, 21:07

There are no right or wrong answers with this subject; just your own personal opinions. Simply put, when you think of the character, what costume immediately pops into your head?

For instance, when I think of Havok, this design is what I think of. Personally, I like the design; it's simple and elegant, and easy to draw.

Similarly, with Cyclops, I always think of his outfit from the '90s cartoon (the one suspender/utility belt look). Perhaps it's just because I started watching/reading during that era, but to me, it's Scott most memorable look.

(NOTE: This doesn't apply to characters who have remained relatively unchanged [Captain America, Superman, etc.]).
Many people who had got to know Rincewind had come to treat him as a sort of two-legged miner's canary, and tended to assume that if Rincewind was still upright and not actually running then some hope remained.

Personally for Havok, I always think of the headsock/Tron costume he wore during Milligan's run and all the way through his Starjammers period.

My iconic Cyclops costume is the one he wore in Astonishing. Although his current attire and the Utopia era costume are close seconds.

For Storm, it's the one designed by Alan Davis.

Cassaday's Emma costume was brilliant and I can't believe others didn't keep it around for all time.

Havok's Tron uniform was SIIIICK!

I love the new direction Carol Danvers has been going for the past several years, but part of me will forever miss her black uniform with the yellow bolt. Iconic.

Those links work, but for whatever reason they all say Storm. They all go to different images.

Also first started reading and watching X-men during the 90s and they remain iconic costumes to me. But Cyclops' Cassaday era to Utopia era look has replaced his one utility belt look for me. It's much more streamlined. And Rogue's Chris Bachalo look that took over since the Carey era is definitely one of my favorites as well.

As for Emma, it's between her Gen X outfit and the Cassaday modern look as up there when I think of Emma. Though, I realize her Gen X look is probably more widely ignored but it did a great job mixing up her old corset outfit with a more modern, not so gratuitius but still sexy look.

I would say TAS really influence what pops into my head, Cyclops, Rogue, (ape) Beast, Gambit all those 90s costumes first come to mind. I would say Bachalo's Rogue costume is a close 2nd

Jubilee not necessarily the full 90s costume but definitely the yellow coat whether it's with the blue shorts or more recent black costumes:http://uncannyxmen.net/characters/jubilee

Cassaday Emma Frost is a favourite too.

I would say Wolverine's yellow costume is most iconic but favourite is the brown costume http://uncannyxmen.net/sites/default/fi ... stume5.jpg

Jean's green Phoenix costume

Iceman Bachalo the spiked ice hair Image

Seconded on the brown Wolverine costume, forgot about that when I was writing my post. Though I saw him in the yellow on TV, one of my first action figures happened to be the brown costume Wolverine and I liked it ever since.

My favorite Havok costume is the 90's X-Factor one. It lacks the iconic elements that are associated with him (head flanges, black body stocking, chest rings) though, so I don't know if counts.

Just ask yourself this: When you think of Alex, is that the uniform that you immediately think of? Then yes, it counts. Much like me and Shadowcat's late 80s blue outfit.

Almost all of the iconic costumes for me are the Jim Lee ones. Exceptions include Archangel (I think of his blue and white classic with the halo), Jean (green Phoenix), and Iceman (spiky). All the Blue Team ones, Storm, Bishop, and Colossus reflect that particular time. Emma is her Astonishing look. Dazzler is her white suit with the roller skates.

I'm not saying all those are my faves. But when they pop up in my head, that's what I first see. TAS made quite a lasting impression.

I too tend to picture the 90s looks more than any other (Actually Rogues Bachallo has edged it out for her).

They're as plain as they come but I have a real soft spot for the original X-men costumes, the uniform ones. I don't know what it is about them I just enjoy seeing them. It might be because they look 'real'

Yup, same here. And the Jim Lee look for Jean Grey (hair out) definitely beats TAS's ponytail.

If I had time to look at all the different outfits they wouldn't necessarily be my favorites, but they are what pops into my mind first.

Probably didn't help that I had a 90s X-Men poster with the TAS team/uniforms on my wall for the longest time... it's not Jim Lee style, actually kinda sad I can't find it online.
