Eaglemoss is working on an X-Men Chess Collection for 2015. Sculpts for Storm, Cyclops, Colossus, & Archangel are in progress.

Are the pawns going to be Madrox?

Each of the pawns have been a different character in past chess collections, but hopefully one of them will be Madrox in case you'd like to buy multiples to be every pawn.

The first piece, Archangel, comes free with the last of the prior set, Molecule Man: http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/prod ... ode=retail

I can understand flying characters, but I still think given its unique ability to move past other pieces knights should be teleporters and/or Kitty Pryde.

Yesss. Storm and Archangel look so good! This has me about to subscribe, though I kinda want to just skip straight to this set and cherry pick the first one. Definitely want the GotG figs, Captain Marvel, Luke Cage, and Hawkeye. Maybe Hank Pym too since I never did get him during the Figurine collection.

I'd contact customer service to see if you can start subscribing from Archangel.

I am very tempted buy this but I have nowhere to put it since I still have a lot of the figurine collection too. It's a shame they are slightly out of scale with the figurine collection otherwise I would cherry pick and replace some of the weaker figurine sculpts like Mystique, Storm and Rogue.

How out of scale are they? They seem pretty close to me, the main difference being the higher bases. I'll just pretend it's a display perk and put them in the back.

The site lets you start subscribing from as late as issue 10, so they apparently do allow it. Looks like they maybe just haven't updated their subscription page in a bit.

I like Colossus as a Rook as his powers would mean he just charges forward and his protective nature fits with castling. I am surprised Storm is not Queen but they must be going for old school with Jean Grey (or perhaps Emma Frost). This does oddly make Colossus more valuable than Ororo though as rooks are better than bishops in chess.

Maybe I put too much thought into the characters in relation to the pieces.

A leaked list had this lineup:
33 – Angel
34 – Storm
35 – Colossus
36 – Mystique
37 – Nightcrawler
38 – Cyclops
39 – Magneto
40 – Rogue
41 – Scalphunter
42 – Magik
43 – Juggernaut
44 – Lady Deathstrike
45 – Brood
46 – Emma Frost
47 – Gambit
48 – Sabretooth
49 – Beast
50 – Daken
51 – Iceman
52 – MR Sinister
53 – Deadpool
54 – Dark Phoenix
55 – Wolverine
56 – Cable
57 – Omega Red
58 – Psylocke
59 – Bastion
60 – Deathbird
61 – Shadowcat
62 – Nimrod
63 – Mastermind
64 – Dark Beast
It boggles my mind that they're making Scalphunter instead of Silver Samurai.

Brood!!!!!

I am so buying a bunch of these and taking them off the podiums. Hopefully the scale will wok out well when I put them with the figurine collection.

No love for Havok, Polaris or Rachel. Then again I can't fault the hero lineup and I guess cuts had to be made somewhere. The villains are interesting. Mastermind, Dark Beast, Nimrod, Bastion, Brood and Scalphunter are all additional to the figurine collection. No Apocalypse, Sentinel, Sauron, Spiral or Blob. but then they might release specials like they have done previously.

I'm guessing Cyclops and Emma as King and Queen vs Magneto and Dark Phoenix.

No Apocalypse cuts me deep but then again Magneto was always going to be King and Apocalypse subordinate to him would be ridiculous.

How come Magik is the only New Mutant who EVER gets any love anymore? Still pretty cool line up.

It's because she's on a current X-Men team. The previous lead non-chess collection had Wolfsbane, Cannoball, Moonstar, & Magik.

He is one of my favourites in the entire collection.

I ended to turning Arachne and Genis-Vel into Magma and Sunspot so that I had a decent New Mutants line-up.

The Super Hero Figurine Forum is running several polls about potential future chess sets (both Marvel & DC) & which characters should be in them: http://shff.freeforums.org/new-threads-polls-f36.html

I once tried to assemble a Heroclix chess collection where the good guy pawns were all Madrox and the bad guy pawns were all Hellfire Guards.

Mastermind is going to be Lady Mastermind & Omega Red has apparently been replaced by Donald Pierce.
