Physical or Digital Comics

Post by Loganalpha75 » 20 Jun 2022, 20:45

How many of you are reading your comics in physical form and how many digitally? Due to space and cost reasons I am reading digital. I have a 3 month delay on current titles. I am considering going back to physical.

I still get all my comics physically which has actually become a problem due to lack of space, it's one of the reasons I've been thinking about getting rid of all my comics at some point in the future. If I did I suppose I would begin reading digitally instead.

Yeah, space is a big issue. My wife would get pissed if I started getting 15 physical titles a month again. I still have 10 long boxes that I keep. I have fished through them all for anything worth a couple of bucks or more. I am considering the best way to get rid of the rest. I have been reading digital for awhile now and the pros are I have access to just about everything! The bad news is it's not the same feeling. All issues seem to blur into each other and I don't remember what happens in particular issues like I did when I read physical.

I buy approx. 40 titles a month at the moment, give or take a crossover event or mini-series beginning/ending (plus backissues when I'm questing. Currently focused on a small Iron Fist collection and Fantastic Four volume 3). I am NOW at the point where I'm just about out of my space in our apartment. My wife is cool my collecting; I introduced it very early in our relationship.

I do buy the occasional digital comic, but generally when it's too old or too expensive for my tastes. Digital is a GREAT way to catch up on older comics or rare ones, so I can't help myself there. Comixology generally does some decent sales too.

Sadly, I have no suggestions as to how to make space other than to get rid of other things you have. I used to have a BUNCH of books, donated those to the library; had a bunch of manga, donated those. If I don't use something regularly, I get rid of it.

Yeah, my wife is cool with my collecting and reading comics. She is even down with me reading physical again if I want. It's nice to have a significant other that doesn't have a problem with comics. I went years hiding my long boxes in my apartments from women I was dating at the time. The nice thing about digital is that it is cheap (I just read Marvel Unlimited). The money saved contributes to my collecting.

I've tried digital comics, and just can't get into them. I'm sure if I practiced I could make do, but my collection has always been physical and I haven't felt a need to switch. I prefer to go floppies for all my X-men stuff, and Ombibii (when possible) for non-X stuff.

Digital is good for sampling new series or minis. Then if the mini is good, get the TPB when it comes out. Or doing old runs you always meant to read. I do prefer physical though.

I read all XMEN comics digital and the I add TPBs to the physical collection...for example, at the moment im reading everything but just gonna still buyin XMEN and TPBs of Immortal XMEN, first one comes in November....Waiting for XFACTOR epic collection 3 to have in physical everything I want to have about XMEN (About 12 Omnibus, 10 epic collections, and 30 tpbs)...they look great with my collection of Sandman, Giants Spawn TPBS, Savage Dragon, Watchmen and Doomsday Clock, HCs of Barry Windsor-Smith, dozens of 2000ad TPBs...I gotta think carefully about what I buy phisically because iM out of space...I usually sell what I dont read and then buy more....
