The speech patterns are honestly one of the worst things about his writing.

I remember the last issue I read of his Incomprehensible X-Men was the one where Magneto actually utters the words “no talk. Heal.” like he’s a caveman. No. No no no.

Here here. I've always had a problem with his speech patterns. And his woman patterns. All the women he writes are either super powerful mary sues or absolutely nuts (see Mystique, Wanda, Jean, Tempus, Emma, etc.) I thought he ruined Ultimate X-Men for me, and then he did it to the X-Men. I, too, am a 32 year old fan das and I read all the way up until I lost interest in his run and am now sort of but not really back after what 2 or 3 years of not reading at all? Yeah, good riddance.

Yeah i'm a 35yo fan and have been reading since 1991 and Bendis was the first time I EVER dropped a book. To this day I still have no idea what happened after BOTA.

I don't doubt it. After BOTA there was nowhere to go but up.

That feels a lot like a retroactive challenge to Bendis that he sank to meet.

Wasn't The Last Will and Testament of Charles Xavier after BotA? Did you actually find that better?
Take it from me -- One doesn't become Gomurr the Ancient by keeping one's eyes clenched shut. First and foremost, you have to be named Gomurr. Then you have to get really, really old.

It had to have been after because I never read it.

OK, not everything was better.

Bendis's run improved after BotA. It was far from perfect. It was very simply a run that did a lot of nothing with a lot of fan favorite characters. He had poor characterization throughout the run and his storylines seemed to consistently run into a brick wall where nothing happened or the payoff was completely flat.

Still, when I sat there and turned my brain off to read it I found myself enjoying it. I greatly enjoyed Maria Hill, most of the interactions of the O5, his new characters, Cyclops' fake out, the individualization of the Cuckoo's, the various issues when Emma was front and center, and a host of other moments throughout the run.

This wasn't a book for the old X-Men fan, in my opinion. Just like I'm not sure how much his early Avengers runs were for old Avengers fans either. He's the Michael Bay of comic books to me. If you think too hard you're going to find a hard reason to even find it worth using for firewood, but if you just flip the pages and look at it as a long "summer blockbuster" it works a little better.

Hell, I at least read Bendis's run to conclusion. Lemire's run bored me so much I'm having trouble getting back into comics again. Guggy's run is both better and worse than Lemire's. Hopeless, oh that name, is the only writer who has excited me to read their next issue since Bendis.

They're like summer blockbusters that were supposed to be a tight ninety minutes but after 2 and a half hours and no conclusion in sight they just end with a wink at the camera.
