Your Alternate X-Men lineups

Post by Holland Oates » 17 Jan 2022, 15:50

I'll let you interpret "alternate" however you like. For my purposes, I'm looking at the events that led up to Charles Xavier recruiting the original 5 X-men. And I'm imagining similar events happening elsewhere in the marvel universe.

-----------------

The Alchemist (generally referred to as 'headteacher' or 'ma'am') a long lived mutant with the ability to alter the chemical composition of anything she touches into its elemental components. She used that ability to amass a fortune and set out to study, protect, and train young mutants.
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Alchemist_(Earth-616)

first class

Sean Cassidy - affable Irish youth, natural leader, athletic, skilled strategist, and acoustikinetic. The Alchemist's first recruit groomed to be the team's field leader.

Peter Wisdom - if Sean is the "Cyclops," Peter would very much be their Londoner version of "Wolverine." Lonerish and anti-authoritarian but potentially as much of a natural leader as Sean. Can absorb ambient heat & solar radiation projecting it as "knives" of heat from his fingertips.

Astrid Bloom - equally lonerish british (parts unknown) teen, reserved, independent, easily bored (with the tendency to wind others up for the entertainment value) with potentially powerful telepathic ability.
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Astrid_Bloom_(Earth-616)

Scott Wright - a mutant from a resort town (southend-on-sea) in southeast England with a real need for acceptance, a desire to be seen as a leader, an envy of Bashur's wealth, and a tendency to take out his insecurities on Mortimer. Scott has the ability to redistribute his mass and has used it to actively hide his real appearance (more awkward version of teenaged Freddie Highmore).

Mortimer Toynbee - abandoned child from York, England saved from the clutches of Amanda Mueller aka the Black Womb. Gifted intellectually but somewhat emotionally stunted by the abuse he endured in early childhood. Tends to be the self-deprecating punching bag of the team but also a source of entertainment. Mortimer's mutation resulted in superhuman leaping ability, a long prehensile tongue, and the ability to secrete a neurotoxic resin from his pores.

Garabed Bashur - a mutant from a wealthy Indian family with the ability to psychically retrieve, interpret, and store data from any form of electronic media and limited cyberkinesis. Aloof and unnervingly confident without being cocky. "Gare" has ambitions extending well beyond fighting for mutantkind out-of-the-gate but welcomes the education he's receiving.

Their main rivals go to the Essex Academy (dubbed the Academy Sinister).

Dr. Chen Lu was a scientist for Communist China that was tasked with radiation experiments to bring out unusual powers in people. He wasn't having much success until Lu began to realize that powers seemed to naturally arise in certain genetic lines, causing manifestation of abilities in a pair of siblings named Zhao and Jimon Tang, quintuplets named Chang, Han, Ho, Lin, and Sun Tao-Yu, and a pair of brothers Kuan-Yin and Shen Xorn. When Lu began to realize the government wanted to use these people as as tools to put down dissenters from Tibet to Xinjiang, he decided that his eXperiments, his X-Men, would be destined for something greater than weapons of the state. Instead they would be part of a new eXperiment: an institution devoted to helping them fully understand their abilities so they may be used to free those who are oppressed for being different around the world. After contacting a secret agent named Jimmy Woo, Dr. Lu is able to escape China with his students.
Best Comics of Week 22

X-titles: X-23 Deadly Regenesis #3 by Erica Schultz (4) and Edgar Salazar (3)
Non-X titles: Dr Strange #3 by Jed MacKay (4) and Pasqual Ferry (2)

In parentheses number of times creator had best comic this year

Neat. I might read that, depending on the costumes. Needs more jade dragon imo.

ALPHA SQUADRON

Aero
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Melody_G ... Earth-616)

Sisimit
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Rosie_Ro ... Earth-616)

Cucuy
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Julian_( ... Earth-616)

Kidogo
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Lazaro_K ... Earth-616)

Network
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Sarah_Vale_(Earth-616)

Galura
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Gabriell ... Earth-616)

Uwak
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Michael_ ... Earth-616)

This would be one of the updated trainee squads. I tried to mix old and newcoming mutants. In case it wasn't apparent , I'm loosely aping the structure of alpha flight: Vindicator, Sasquatch, Shaman, Puck, Madison Jeffries, Northstar & Aurora. I considered adding Crosta or Shark Girl as a Marrina surrogate.
