TMNT

Post by EvilMonkeyPope » 28 Jun 2014, 01:56

Has anybody been reading IDW's TMNT? At first it wasn't clicking for me, but after the first few arcs it's taken off. The tone is very similar to the 2003 cartoon, but it borrows from various incarnations (just like the awesome Nick cartoon). The Matteo Santolouco & Ross Campbell art looks great too. The 30th Anniversay Special also had stories from the previous TMNT comics teams including Archie Adventures. It's a surprisingly fun updated reboot.

I just started reading the trades after IDW's Ghostbusters ended with the TMNT/GB crossover mini. I agree the first couple arcs were slow start but I also like the way it laid the groundwork for this version of the world. I'm hoping to get a few more trades this next week so I can keep going.

I'm really like the series so far. Yes it started out slow, but I liked how Raph had to find his way back to his family. The whole Krang and his invading army, Shredder and his Foot taking over the city, and the Turtles doing their things just keep the stories going. I also like how they made Hun Caseys dad. Old Hob is one of my favorite bad/good guys at the moment along with Slash and the other Mutanimals. One of my favorite story lines so far is probably City at War with the introduction of Dark Leo.

Oh I liked a lot of that stuff. Just used to TMNT versions that jump straight into stuff. Old Hob is a great character.

It's not gratuitously dark.

Finished City At War and the "Fallout" arc. Neat to see April's parents and that Leo took time to shake off his brainwashing. Not just some quick snap cure and them drawing back to the reincarnation thing we saw in earlier stories.

Got the last of the micro-series stories. These kind of stories were always interesting to me. Highlight the characters and have those stories feed back into the main series continuity. The Bebop/Rocksteady and the Casey Jones ones were well done.
