Amazing Spider-man #14-Dark Web Tie-in

So I was curious on how Wells would square Ayala’s last use of Maddy and her teaming with Chasm (Ben). And I think Wells does a pretty good job of making it all sensible.

Basically Wells establishes a kind of shared trauma between the two. Wells even points back to a long established idea that Limbo changes in ways to fit its ruler and so that’s what drew Ben there. And from there, Ben makes a case that both of them have had parts of their lives stolen (in both cases Ben is wrong but its not his fault he’s wrong. It’s Beyond’s fault) and that by working with him, Maddy can finally be made whole again. And he even drives home that for Maddy this isn’t an easy choice and she isn’t some cackling villainess but someone with trust issues and trauma. Which given everything it’s a reasonable argument on some level. And by focusing it on the person she was cloned from and not Cyclops, it does present a confrontation between them. I know its not enough to satisfy the hardcore folks but it’s enough that I think Wells is respecting what came before.

Also, I think if nothing else kudos for connecting Beyond back to Limbo from wayyyyyyyy back in New Mutants #9.
So on one hand we have the existence of a being who can reset the entire timeline, destroying everything…, and on the other hand we have a few mind wipes and some gaslighting. You're right, totally evenly weighted.
