Re: Best/Worst X-Men Runs of the 2000s Part Deux

I would be interesting to hear some elaboration by the many who rate Guggenheim as the worst. There were some problems (the Colossus-Kitty wedding ended up being a sh*tshow and his use of Ink was baffling) but overall I just remember it being kind of meh and not awful. Compare that to Bunn whom some...

Re: Uncanny X-Men 22 (Spoilers)

This was a conclusion that was much better than I expected. Rosenberg's run started out strong, stumbled at times and looked headed for a faceplant, and then fortunately sticks the landing here. That said, the more I think about all of this and how horrible people feel about the sheer amount of deat...

Re: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

The biggest issue from the mediocre reviews is they are saying the leveling system makes it so you can't just swap out characters when you want, unless you want to do a large amount of grinding to get them up to level. It is a poor gameplay decision in a game in which one of the features is all the ...

Punisher Annual #1

This annual is one of a few this year that are part of Acts of Evil, which if you haven't heard is a new version of the classic Acts of Vengeance event where Marvel heroes faced foes from other franchises. This issue features X-Men foe Brood Queen facing off against Punisher. The Draekus Corporation...

Re: Best/Worst X-Men Runs of the 2000s Part Deux

Bendis is the worst and it isn't even close.

Best is more difficult. Probably Carey on Legacy and then I am not sure on Uncanny. The answer probably lies somewhere in the Brubaker-Fraction-Gillen era. But honestly the flagship was just not the strongest title compared to others at the time.

Re: Legion TV series

Anyone still watching this mindf#$* of a show? We are actually getting to see a young Professor X tinkering away at Cerebro and discovering Amahl Farouk!

I don't understand why they seemed to have him as a soldier in WWII rather than the Korean War though. Dates him too much imo.

Back to Basics or Forward to the Future?

Recently X-Men Blue and Gold were pretty clearly meant to be titles that invoked nostalgia and told current stories in the spirit of classic X-Men. They were...not well received. Soon House of X and Powers of X will be releasing and previews show they are meant to be a revolutionary shake-up of the ...

Re: Wolverine & Captain America: Weapon Plus #1 (SPOILERS)

You know what I like most? Is that the story perfectly encapsulates what a shared universe is so amazing. All those pieces could be separate but connecting them in this way enriches it. And honestly, it’s shocking that no one thought to connect them before. This is totally something that would make...

Re: Reading in the Moment (and why solicits suck)

We never "know" a character will come back. Yes, we do. Nah. Every single writer that kills a major character today does so knowing full well they will be brought back eventually, and, in fact, counting on it. That's part of the reason deaths are more common today than they were, say, in the Silver...

Re: Reading in the Moment (and why solicits suck)

Assigning intent to writers without actual knowledge of their intent is something I’m not comfortable with...it adds my bis to their intentions and really does nothing constructive to conversation...that doesn’t mean you can’t criticize a writer but to assert (with certainty) you know what they mea...

Re: Reading in the Moment (and why solicits suck)

The problem is the repetitiveness of the cycle- a death can still be shocking and have a deep effect even if you know the character will come back later (Kurt's death in SC is a good example of this). However, most of the time, it is not, because, since writers know they can kill characters with im...

Re: Reading in the Moment (and why solicits suck)

It is definitely my least favorite aspect of comic fan culture that everyone always wants to be in the future. I like to try to avoid previews and solicits but then I find when going to talk about current issues people have already discussed it two months ago when they read spoilers before the issue...

Also I appreciate your enthusiasm for the drafts but as others have demonstrated, we have introduced several concepts similar to a steal pick without actually depriving someone of the characters they choose. If someone ever wanted to introduce a steal option into their draft that is at their discre...

Re: Uncanny X-Men 21

I guess this is a matter of in-story vs. outside-of story perspectives. Within the plot, the deaths all had some intention or purpose to them: Sunspot sacrifices himelf to save the others, Blindfold comits suicide because she can't stand the inevitability of the X-Men's fate, Rahne is tired of all ...
