Re: House of X #5 (SPOILERS)

I appreciate the new direction and the creative use of the characters and their powers. However, Hickman still doesn’t respect the personalities of these characters very much. Ororo is not the right person to engage in demagoguery. There’s no part of her that wants to get up in front of the masses a...

Re: UPSTARTS MONTH: SIENA BLAZE

Well, your research is likely more reliable than my 25-year-old memory, but all these years I’ve “known” Blaze’s first appearance was in Unlimited #1 based on reading the books at the time. I ain’t gonna change my truth based on your research! ;p (I do remember Gambit’s out-of-order introduction tho...

Re: UPSTARTS MONTH: SIENA BLAZE

I think there’s an error. The data page says her first actual appearance (not Stryfe’s Strike File) was Uncanny #301. But the biography and the issue checklist show Unlimited #1 as being set before that. According to UXN, Both issues have the same cover date (June 1993).The Uncanny appearance has di...

They got it from Charles Atlas, along with a packet of sea monkeys and pair of x-ray glasses.

Re: Powers of X #4 (SPOILERS)

But X2 was explicitly shown to be life 9...that’s the life that ends with Moira being killed by Logan to start Life 10. Was it? I’ll have to go back and re-read. Wait, was the Apocalypse future life 9 or 10? I thought it was 10. 6 — unknown 7 — Trasks 8 — Magneto 9 — Apocalypse I guess you’re right...

Re: Powers of X #4 (SPOILERS)

So here’s how I see it: All of 616 up to the birth of Moira is exactly what we’ve been reading for decades. But there it gets wonky; Moira lives life one, when she dies the whole of 616 is rebooted. This happens 10 times, and she learns a lot. Still a mystery what happened in Life 6, but we know wha...

Re: Powers of X #4 (SPOILERS)

Whelp, after reading it I think the conversation with Sinister establishes that psychic memory blocks are Hickman’s way out here. The scenes with Sinister and Krakoa are Life XI, and 616, and Charles, Magneto and Sinister have been operating with memory blocks until HoX #1. It’s the cleanest solutio...

I haven’t read this yet, or the thread above (spoilers!), but I wanted to pop by and say that on the cover X looks a lot like a classic Havok. Black uni, round headdress.

Re: House of X #4 (SPOILERS)

This is not quite right. A nation state can offer citizenship to an entire class of people if it so chooses. Israel did just that beginning in 1950, and continuing to this day. Any Jew (as defined by the law of Israel) has a right to immigrate to Israel and become a citizen upon arrival. But an ind...

Well, under Xavier’s leadership at least, mutants haven’t tried genocide. Humans, both real and fictional, certainly have.

Re: House of X #4 (SPOILERS)

Likewise, citzenship isn't just decided on a whim or by genetic trait. While many mutants may have been mistreated in the past, they still are official citizens of some state, and you can' just grant them a new citizenship without adressing the old one. Quite a lot of countries do not allow for dua...

Re: what are you reading?

I just read Double Star by Heinlein. It was a Hugo winner. Surprisingly, I had never read it before. My obsessive Heinlein phase, back in middle school, was mostly his more satirical later books. I never read a lot of his more “serious” work from his early years.

Re: House of X #4 (SPOILERS)

In fact, based just on what we know now, I’d like to see it turn out that Life 6 was 616, and that life 11 will be Moira’s effort to re-create life 6, but with everything she learned from 7-10 to improve it. So we get a subtly changed past, and a new future. But everything we’ve read before still h...

Re: Joker (spoilers thread)

The Guardian wrote "A Batman v Joker movie could make Marvel's Avengers look like the Powerpuff Girls" as a headline. I am so proud the PPG fandom has come out in full force to tell them that's not an insult. Remember when Iron Man came out, and we were all so happy for a superhero movie that was f...

Re: House of X #4 (SPOILERS)

I have to admit, since the Moira X reveal the story has been losing me. The revelation in Powers of X left me guarded about what to expect from X1. This issue left me cold since I have no reason to believe these deaths "matter". Either these X-Men are going to resurrect in pods or this is another o...

Re: House of X #4 (SPOILERS)

Yeah, I’m currently pretty persuaded that HoX is showing us Moira 10’s life, and that after disclosing to Xavier what she learned from life 9, they worked with Magneto and Sinister (and Apocalypse?) to create what we’re seeing. Life 11 will be what we get going forward, and I expect it will have mo...

Re: House of X #4 (SPOILERS)

Nu-D, most of the articles I read the day of launch of this series was about Hickman’s redefinition of the omega status and confirmed Omega level Mutants— whilst it may not have been Hickman doing all of the build up, it was certainly the side of things that news sites chose to run wild with immedi...

Re: House of X #4 (SPOILERS)

See, and again maybe it’s all in my head, but I don’t buy that explanation for Jean. Hickman just spent all that time building up the title of Omega mutant and made Jean one and I don’t think he’s somehow depowering her to make a statement about the power levels of the X-Men (I mean outside of Jean...

Does anyone still recall that after issue #1 lots of people assumed that at least parts of the story could be set inside The World?
That was before we knew about Moira, so there was a bunch of guessing as to why the status quo seemed so radically different.

Re: House of X #4 (SPOILERS)

Honestly, this was one of the most beautiful X-Men issues ever in my eyes. Each page blew me away but the standouts were definitely the Nightcrawler and Wolverine moment. While I don't have gripes, I do have to question this plan they had. In HoX #3, we saw Kurt teleport into the station and locate...

Re: House of X #4 (SPOILERS)

This is the problem, from a storytelling point of view, of having such an expansive roster. If Magneto had gone he could have destroyed the damn thing from space without ever setting foot on it. Four teleporters could have popped in, dropped the thing, and popped out without anyone noticing they wer...

Logan is definitely the best superhero movie ever made, and my personal top favorite, and a big reason is despite it's dark edges, it's warm an wholesome in the middle.
