Re: 31 Days of Comics

Oh yeah, Maus and Persepolis. I’ve read those too. I’m loathe to pick any of the three as superior to the others. They’re all great.

Day 6- Nonfiction comic you'd recommend to people who don't do nonfiction

This is easy, I’d have to go with March by John Lewis and Andrew Ayadin...
March is a great comic. It’s also the only non-fiction comic I can remember reading. So it gets my vote both on the merits and by default.

I can’t help but share these pages. The evolution of emotion in Francine’s face is captivating. From exhaustion and depression, to resignation, bafflement, shock, joy and then finally heartbreak. It’s such a powerful journey. Screen Shot 2020-01-05 at 11.08.38 AM.png Screen Shot 2020-01-05 at 11.08....

Day 5: A great love story: ”Sanctuary,” Strangers in Paradise vol. 3, nos. 17-21. Adult Francine is depressed, her marriage a failure. She spies Katina in a hotel bar, and flashes back to their youth, a time when she couldn’t admit to herself she was in love with a woman and couldn’t let go of the ...

Day 4: First comic series you ever seriously pursued This one is easy, it’s Amazing Spider-man. My first X-Men comic was Uncanny #248 but I was young and didn’t get them regularly yet. Did you buy #248 as a new issue, or as a back issue? My first issue was #257, so I came on board just a few months...

Re: 31 Days of Comics

Now that I’ve been properly chastised for breaking the rules, I’ll change my answer to Day 3. I’m going to give the MCU a shoutout for doing such a good job adapting the comic books’ “shared universe” for the big screen. I always knew it could be done, and Fiege & the Crew pulled it of Marvelously.

What’s day 3? Sorry I was sleep lol Day 3: Great adaptation or remake of another work I’m going with the Watchmen TV series for very obvious reasons lol...runner-up would be Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood In 2019, Little Women. Re: 31 Days of Comics

Day 1: Favorite single issue of all time: I doubt I’d be able to pick the same book every time the question is posed, but this time I’m going to pick Uncanny X-Men #173 . Paul Smith introduces “cinematic” sequential storytelling, decades before it becomes vogue; the pacing of the whole issue is abso...

I found this pretty boring, but my wife liked it so we watched it. The best scene was at the beginning of the last episode with the two Storm Troopers shooting the shit. Very little else interested me.

I disagree. I think it normalises it more to have same same-sex couples featured with other couples, without fanfare. I agree with this statement, and support the effort. I just didn’t think it was really done very well here, mostly because I didn’t see “other couples” kissing. Maybe I missed it an...

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX

Did anyone notice the lesbian kiss near the end when all the Resistance are celebrating? The older lady general, the one that told Poe Leia had died, kissed a female Resistance member and I nearly cheered. Just a good little moment that I haven't seen acknowled anywhere. I didn't like how there was...

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX

Was Palpatine’s design inspired by Cameron Hodge?

This film was fine. It would have been better if it had some room to breathe. Too frenetic, and the audience never had a moment to sit with any of the story beats.

Re: Black Widow

Until the MCU and Fraction, I hated Hawkeye. That OG costume is ridiculous, and he never made sense as an archer on a team of superheroes. Plus, in AWC he was played as a real jerk.

But I like the MCU version a lot.
