Well, I didn't expect a reference to the Talmud in any response :)
I try to find my moral wisdom in any source I can. My exposure is principally to literature and moral philosophy, Judaism, Quakerism and Taoism. I’m no Talmudic scholar, but I like to dabble.

Re: Random Thoughts

I'd agree with you on that. The problem that exists though is that they're both wrongs. Not equatable wrongs by any stretch, but there's no suggestion that the former is a necessary, effective and acceptable evil to combat the evils of the latter. I don’t have time today to do more point-by-point. ...

And let me be clear: I do not know if this civil unrest is necessary to affect change, or if it will be productive or not. What I do know is this: the injustice committed by the civil unrest—principally property damage, sometimes to innocent people—carries far, far less moral weight than the injusti...

And if the action taken is contrary to the protesters' aspirations, as the article Crutey shared suggested? What if the spur to action is the greater militarisation of police to 'control' unrest? If there’s a Block of concrete in your way, and you can’t move it by hand, you will use a sledgehammer ...

Rioting makes people pay attention. And that's the best way? Let's have our voices heard as trouble-makers? Nah. I only skimmed the conversation, so apologies if this is redundant: I think some people are frustrated that there doesn’t seem to be any other way to be heard. We’ve had countless peacef...

Re: Random Thoughts

Some of it is opportunism, but some of it really is a sense that “peaceful” protest just gets ignored, and that the only way to affect change it to make it clear that there’s going to be a cost. Sixty-odd years ago, peaceful protest was incredibly effective because it was met by violence from the St...

There are several people in my extended family who are immersed in a cauldron of conspiratorial and magical thinking, who are latching on to vague allegations of government incompetence, capitalist greed, and so on, to confirm their biases and reject the consensus of empirical research on COVID. Kuvira has the same eyebrows as Sarah Yarkin. What are two people I've never heard of before, Alex? Ditto. I do find it striking how the shape of her eyebrows and nose are paralleled with the shape of the collar on her jacket. It’s a very effective look for her, if she would only get her finger out...

Nope, just prostitution, transvestism and drug dealing! I love that Reed wrote songs like this. Reed was profiling four actual friends of his. It was a love letter. He was willing to write, “look at us, we’re junkies, we’re queer, we’re prostitutes, and we’re gorgeous and deserve to be seen.” Googl...

Master and Servant by Depeche Mode is surely the best S+M orientated pop track. It’s a great song, but you can’t talk about “the best S+M oriented pop track” without the Velvet Underground’s Venus in Furs , or Reed’s Walk on the Wild Side . I'll give you Venus in Furs, but Walk on the Wild Side isn...

The slow retcon of the Hellfire Club into some kind of misguided Mutant Rights enterprise is one of the dumbest plot lines of the past 30 years. Emma, Shaw, and all the others were not in it for the welfare of mutants. They were in it for power and money. I know we’re trying to salvage Emma’s charac...

Every time I try to read this era—from AoA to Revolution—I get bored and give up. I’ve maybe read a handful of issues, but I’m not sure I’ve read a whole storyline.

With that said, I’m going to try reading #322 today, and we’ll see how it goes

I’m not sure what criterion you used to select songs for the music page, but you might mention her performance of Proud Mary in the outback. After all, it was “so raw it put Tina Turner to shame.”

I definately think of everyone by the apparent gender of their name & avatar. A little while back I realized this, and that my own was ambiguous, and so I added my preferred pronouns to my signature line. It’s not like thick spaghetti sauce or cocktail sauce, or even salsa. It’s basically the lime brine, but with tomato added. Not all that interesting, TBH.

Tim Tams are pretty good. I have deep seated conflict about s’mores. When done right, s’mores can be delicious. But even the very best made s’more is disgusting because marshmallows are disgusting.
