Re: Claremont on Jay and Miles xplain the xmen podcast

Your last statement isn't remotely true. While there are quite a few romantic relationships in the X-Verse there are many more close platonic relationships. There may be more platonic relationships, but it is true that because of the long soap opera form of storytelling, you eventually will run int...

Re: Claremont on Jay and Miles xplain the xmen podcast

As far as I know, the only romantic entanglements Illyana's ever had was being hit on by all the boys in that one dance they had with the Hellions. And Kitty got super jealous. Rahne had a crush on Sam and both Sam and Berto had crushes on Amara, I think. Could you be mixing up two different issues...

Re: Claremont on Jay and Miles xplain the xmen podcast

Something just occured to me. In interviews Claremont sometimes criticised certain developments of other writers. But when he wrote, he did himself what he faults in other writers. For example, he regrets peple staying on the team forever instead of moving on. But he and Louise Simonson were the on...

Asexual people can fall in love and have crushes. Sexual attraction is only one dimension of love.

Further, it’s not like Leia was really an Organa. She’s a Skywalker-Amidala. The easy answer is wherever he was raised, family names are patrilineal. If Ben wanted to go against this tradition, it’s not clear to me he would chose Organa over Skywalker. Given the affection between Leia and Han, I se...

I don't believe she was introduced in Secret Avengers.
You’re right. I don’t know what I was thinking.

Re: Solo

This is going to seem oddly tangential and abstract, but bear with me... I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the continuity of the self. What makes me the “same” person I was twenty years ago? I share some memories with my 20-year-old self, but I also have forgotten a lot of what he knew, and lear...

Re: Solo

The thing is, I think actors and creators want fans to be passionate about their movies, and if you don't like something from a genuine, "I don't care for that in the story" reason, they are more than wiling to listen and accept criticism. But when it just becomes nothing but venom and bile about r...

But his claws already cut through anything so... what's the point? He can light his cigars without needing to carry a lighter now? Two things: Steve.McNiven. If you get him to draw your book you add in as many dope visuals as possible. Honestly, until I know more it’s just a dope visual and that’s ...

Re: West Coast Avengers Live Again!

An interview by Kelly Thompson about the book: https://www.cbr.com/interview-kelly-thompson-west-coast-avengers/ The thing that most excites me is the quote: When I first pitched it, it was “Superheroes meets Parks & Rec.” So the documentary style – with “fourth wall breaking” confessionals used as...

I’d honestly prefer Jean and Scott to be Rachel’s parents. She doesn’t need a more complicated origin.

Re: Random Thoughts

Is the new plastic screen maybe harder to break? I’m not sure it’s actually a difference between plastic and glass. Just that the old one felt hard and solid, and this one feels more plastic-y to the touch and the tapping sound when you touch it sounds more plastic-y too. Maybe there’s a good reaso...

I’m peeved that the 2017 iPad that I bought refurbished from Apple feels more cheaply made than the 2014 iPad Air 2 I was replacing. I knew going in that the new device was a little fatter and a little heavier, but I was surprised to find that the screen feels like plastic instead of glass. I’m sur...

Which half of The Defenders do you think died at the end of the movie? If Iron Fist died, would anyone even care? I imagine that whichever of the 50% she landed on, Jess would be mad as hell about it until she realised that she means she has to deal with 50% less stupid people, but then goes straig...

I really need to catch up on Saga. I'm so far behind I'm not sure where I left off anymore.
The kindle editions are really inexpensive.

I would caution against binge-reading multiple trades, though. Too much at once and it becomes more obvious how much treading water is happening.

Blowing up Alderaan just to make a point wasn’t “evil” enough for you? Being run by Sith Lords who torture underlings and use summary execution wasn’t evil? How about all the rhetoric about accumulating power to rule? The untempered will to power as an end in itself doesn’t strike you as evil?

I'm annoyed they keep introducing interesting characters only to kill them off five minutes later. What a wast of Thandie Newton, who I adore. I would've rather she survived til the end than Harrelson.

Re: Solo

The only two I felt as too much Star wars-like (even though the OG Star Wars weren’t all that “original”) were the two main films. Rogue One (which I really like for how tragic it was) was great...Rebels was amazing and up there with the Avatar series in terms of plotting and character development....
