Re: Birds of Prey: Harley Quinn

Let’s not forget that DC has been putting out pretty good superhero movies since the 1970’s. Some duds too, but they were way ahead of Marvel for 30+ years.

BW is way more important than some baby.
I don’t disagree, but there’s a reasonable chance I could end up homeless if I stated that without my pseudonym.

Re: Birds of Prey: Harley Quinn

I’ll go see Black Widow twice to make up for skipping this. WW1984 too.

Edit: actually, I’ll have a week old newborn when BW is released. I might not make it to the theater, which is disappointing, but I don’t think I’m allowed a frowny-face for that.

Re: Birds of Prey: Harley Quinn

The thing is, I don’t care if there’s a sequel to this.

Hollywood knows female superheroes can be lucrative. Hollywood knows women can direct massive superhero hits. They’ll keep churning them out and tinkering with the formula.

I’ll save my pennies for particular properties I’m interested in.

Reviews have been generally ok. Since I’m not particularly invested in DC movies or these characters, I’ll rent this sometime.

Re: Captain Marvel 2

I heard a rumor (from a not-credible source) Rogue was going to debut in this. How cool would that be? Rogue debuts as a villain stealing Carol’s powers, and reforms as the X-Men are introduced into the MCU?

Re: Reality manipulation and insanity

I’m sure there are a lot of retcons I’m unaware of, but it’s been established for a long time that Wanda uses her reality manipulation powers unconsciously to change the world around her. Way back in 1989 it was revealed that her babies were wish-fulfillment, using her powers to steal parts of the s...

Re: Spotlight on... COUNT NEFARIA!

Nefaria always struck me as an odd choice for the X-Men. But I guess CC didn’t really manage to escape the villain-of-the-month model for a couple of years. Looking back, those issues with Nefaria, Moses Magnum, Arcade and Warhawk, all seem old-school, compared to the longer arcs that surrounded the...

Marvel Unlimited is doing a sweepstakes on Facebook to win a 5 year subscription. Telling you hurts my chances of getting it so you are lucky I like you.

Note you have to complete a brutal trivia challenge to be eligible.

There's also a flash of the two of them standing in front of a pair of bassinets, too. With pacifiers in the air. Grace over at Beyond the Trailer has a great shot-by-shot breakdown of this promo. Looks like we’re getting the Time Variance Authority in Loki. We’ve got US Agent. Lots of deep cuts in...

Ugh. Used to be one of my favorite characters but she gets worse with every appearance. She should never have returned after her original story. It served its purpose.

Day 30: The problem I’m having here is that I have a pretty limited library of comics in my repertoire, and I’m such an intellectual poseur that I’ve already listed all of the “smart” ones.

Day 31: All-Star Superman. Such a good comic.

Re: 31 Days of Comics

Day 29: Where to start? Comics were a central part of my early adolescence. They had a undeniable impact on how I saw the world at a very formative time. From the multiverses of “What if...?” to the moral arguments of GLMK and DPS, they pervade my worldview. As an adult, I’d have to point to “the un...

Re: Random Thoughts

Oh yeah, and Sgt. Slaughter! I’m not sure I’ve ever watched more than the occasional 30-second clip. As kids, we all knew that it was “fake.” I’ve assumed that meant not only were the physical feats staged, but the competition was scripted and the results predetermined. Over at Wikipedia, the articl...

When I was in sixth grade, I thought Hulk Hogan was the alter ego of the Incredible Hulk until I got teased by some peers. I think the only other pro wrestlers I can name are Andre the Giant and Randy the Macho Man Savage.

Re: Crisis On Infinite Earths!

I confess I haven’t watched Legends outside of the crossovers. Mostly because the lead actress irritates me. I can never tell if she’s smirking or crying. And that corset they make her wear looks ridiculous. But CW really wants to sell her as a central figure next to Arrow, Supergirl and Flash.

Re: Crisis On Infinite Earths!

One thing they do way to much is have the protagonists all just standing in a line, all in the same artificial pose. Or walking in a mob, all together, nobody lagging behind or looking around. The director just said, “come in together and walk down the steps,” and they do and it looks ridiculous. Li...

Re: Crisis On Infinite Earths!

This is the third time I’ve taken up watching the CW shows after a long break. Every time, it’s immediately apparent how terrible the acting, scripting, directing, plotting, action and effects are. And every time, after the fourth or fifth episode of a binge, that awfulness starts to blur, and I get...

Re: Crisis On Infinite Earths!

Just think, in some countries, it's illegal for pharmas to advertise. As it was here until the late 1990’s. Who’s the female character in the blue & light blue costume? You might be interested to know, she's a trans woman, played by a trans actress. Cool. Never heard of the actress or the character...

Isn't that most pharma advertising? Maybe. But if the advert played only once a week or so, I’d remember the brand and the illness, but not the laundry list of horrifying side effects. Anyhow, I forgot how bad these shows are. Nonetheless, it’s been fun to watch. Except for Benoist’s bangs. Whose b...

I don’t care how pretty the actors are or how upbeat the music is, if you play the same Xeljanz advert 6 times in a 45 minute episode, all I’m going to remember is “tears in the stomach and intestine,” “cancers, including lymphoma,” and “increased risk of death.” Jesus, what a terrible marketing ca...

Re: Random Thoughts

Hi guys, are here any classic sci-fi lovers? I am looking for an old short story, and I can’t remember exactly the writer. Asimov, Clarke, Bradbury? The title is something like „Are we there yet“ „Have we finally arrived?“ Not sure anymore. The short story is collected in a book, and as far as I re...
