Inking

Dan Green did an awesome job on Silvestri. The art on Uncanny back then had a real hard boiled, gritty feel to it totally different from the manufactured edge that was slowly creeping into Marvel elsewhere.

Inking

The forum search function has timed out on me four times now, so I apologize if this a topic already. Ahem. Inking is a very important (And often overlooked) aspect of comic art. An inker's contributions and importance may vary due to how tight the pencils he/she is working with, how heavy a hand th...

X-Men: Iconic First Issues

Yeesh. Other than Whedon's Astonishing #1, most of these were mediocre to flat out bad. X-Factor in particular was a clunker of a book until the Simonsons stepped in to clean the mess up.

The Mutant School Mistake

Not every black activist was pro-integration. While he eventually changed his tune before he was murdered (Most likely by thugs hired by his former leader), Malcolm X was once on record saying the only integration he liked was cream in his coffee. There are also numerous radical feminist groups who ...

It would still be stupid. The fallout should be made of grander stuff than soap opera high jinks.

Were Magneto and Xavier lovers?

I once had a friendship with someone that could be said to run that deep, and it ended rather tragically. The prospect of sleeping with them was on my mind about as much as the prospect of waking up with a rotary phone for genitalia. I think the urge to add romantic/sexual subtext to every deep and ...

Your Dream Writer/Title Pairs

I would let Walt Simonson, Mike Allred, and Mike Mignola write/draw whatever the hell they wanted. I'd also bring back the Erik Larsen/Kurt Busiek Defenders, and Larsen's Nova. Tom Orzechowski, John Workman, and Chis Eliopoulos would letter EVERYTHING. FCO Plascencia, Steve Oliff, and Bill Crabtree ...

Why hasn't Marvel ever rebooted?

I still think a fatal flaw in DC's plan was making Jim Lee one of the architects of this whole operation, including setting the aesthetic tone the universe and its heroes take. The guy can draw a fine set of biceps and a mean rib cage when it strikes his fancy to turn pages in on time, but this ain'...

Why hasn't Marvel ever rebooted?

Don't DC characters keep getting new origin stories? How many different Superman origins do we have now? Man of Steel, Birthright, Secret Origin...is the New 52 origin distinct from the last one? Their products just seem to collect unnecessary clutter. Is it because everyone is a legacy character wi...

New X-Couples

I propose a pansexual, polyamorous orgy of all team memembers, which results in everyone but Logan catching something (Probably Rictor's fault). Then as Logan deals with the stark decline in everyone's health, Marvel can give us what we want most out of X books: A Wolverine-bonanza pregnant with bas...

Mutants vs. Organized Labor

Methinks everyone should bone up on Spencerian thought, as it is a bulwark (albeit a problematic one) against social planning, eugenics, and all other sorts of liberty-stripping 20th century style policies that result in centrally planned, totalitarian societies. Herbert Spencer is not quite the dem...

Mutants vs. Organized Labor

I often wonder how many X-Men fans would be real world anti-mutant bigots if such people were actually walking the earth. There are some luddite and Fear of the Other style postulations here, which can have deleterious effects on liberty and liberal martkets in real life. It is, as Data would say, i...

Mutants vs. Organized Labor

It is cynical and illogical to just assume a business owner would pilfer the savings more efficient labor practices bring to his or her business. If generating more profit is the primary concern (as it should be, assuming we are discussing a private sector concern), a sustainable model of reinvestme...

I love how these stupid lists can still manage to ruffle everyone's feathers on this board. "So-and-So is NOT useless! Do these idiots EVN KNO XMN?!" Of course this list is biased. It's a fluff entertainment piece designed to appeal to snarky comic book readers. Are we really calling for some sort o...
