Re: what are you reading?

Goodnight Jim Bob : On the Road with "Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine" Only a few 'chapters' in, but this autobiography has had me rolling up as much as the former Carter USM's frontman's lyrics have in the past. I've wanted this book for years but there's been print run issues (no-one else wante...

Re: Thor 4 Confirmed

This will also make Thor the longest running solo Marvel film series if you exclude reboots / recasts. Which is frankly absurd given the public's minimal recognition of the character prior to the release of Thor 1. I think the only superhero film series to manage this achievement was the original Su...

Thor 4 Confirmed

https://www.denofgeek.com/uk/movies/tho ... i-director

Can't wait to order four for Thor 4 at the ticket desk.

Or do we think it'll, like prior films, carry a subtitle. I'm hoping for Fantastic Thor myself.

Re: Random Thoughts

See I think because the BBC series was so close to Adams, and as much of the TV cast had worked on the radio seriels, they helped define the characters completely. I know it's a bit wobbly given the vintage (and the lack of budget). Strictly speaking its only part of an adaptation - and partly precu...

Re: Random Thoughts

And once again I sum up that Trump sounds like the Galactic President from Hitchhikers: He is actually there to do things distracting and stupid so everyone focuses on him instead of what the real power is doing. You know that's not a bad analogy between Trump and Xaphod Beeblebrox, but Xaphod was ...

My firstborn child is due any day now so I think I will be a bit too busy for this one but good luck to all!
You might not be getting much sleep though, I'm sure 2am is a perfect draft pick time :D

In all seriousness, good luck to you Cable. Exciting times!

Ok then, I'm putting my hat in to the ring on this one... not sure if I''ll regret it when any sort of plan is a busted flush, but I'll enjoy the ride.

Re: Marvel vs DC Draft

Really stupid question, but is the 'DC universe' the standard continuity, so stuff published by DC but not within the DC universe won't count.

Watchmen? Won't count. Sandman? Will count?

Re: Random Thoughts

Yeah saw that. What a div... I massively feel for people of colour in the States at the moment. I mean I know Obama wasn't perfect, but I thought his presidential terms indicated that some (though by no means all) of the racial prejudice of old in the US was fading, and then this complete bigot gets...

Re: Draft planning thread

So I'm starting sign ups for the Marvel vs DC draft today. I figure we can start next Monday. You can confirm that you want to play in this thread or in the soon to be posted Draft thread in the Make Mine Marvel topic. How many characters will be in from either roster? I'm (somewhat obviously, give...

Re: Stranger Things

Steve and Robin's come down heart to heart in the bogs where Robin comes out was my TV moment of the year so far, and Steve's slightly shell shocked but still cool with it reaction was a brilliant display of character progression.

Great season, and I love the Dustin / Steve bromance so much.

Re: SPOILERS for Spiderman Far From Home

Based on the upcoming Disney+ shows, Clint is on Earth training Kate / his daughter, Falcon and Bucky are finding about what it means to inherit the shield as Cap, and Wanda is probably starting to lose her mind based on the WandaVision premise. I think War Machine, Ant-Man, Wasp and Hulk are around...

Re: SPOILERS for Spiderman Far From Home

Although what makes some updates OK or preferable to others? Purely personal taste. I loved some of the changes made to CM in the MCU, so I guess I'm a hypocrite but I just feel more strongly about some changes than others I guess. It's not necessarily an intellectual examination but more what "feel...

Re: SPOILERS for Spiderman Far From Home

We've seen how many lines of dialogue of the "new" Jonah? All of which is entirely keeping in line with his prior characterisation other than the Bugle is a website rather than a newspaper? How many times in JJJ's history has been convinced Spiderman was in cahoots with the villain of the month, or ...

Re: SPOILERS for Spiderman Far From Home

Without repeating myself too much, I guess I just don't see that archetype as being dated, or limited to the 60s. Hell, when I first read those school set issues (in the early to mid 90s), I didn't really see Flash (beyond the fashions he wore) as being particularly dated. I mean, looking at the por...

Re: SPOILERS for Spiderman Far From Home

I disagree - I think the portrayal of a Flash that did exist in the comics (albeit one that's subsequently grown considerably over 50+ years) is still better and more serviceable to fans than the portrayal of a Flash that simply just didn't exist in the comics at all. I'm not saying he should foreve...

Re: SPOILERS for Spiderman Far From Home

As someone with teenagers, I can say with certainty (similarly to the 21 Jump Street film, bullies today are much more like this Flash than Bif or Ogre, I'd assume they made the changes they did because that's the world teenagers live in today and it also shows bullying isn't just beating some kid ...

Re: SPOILERS for Spiderman Far From Home

I'm not sure 'classic jocks' were just a product of the 60s as you suggest - I think it's still an ever-present. I still see lots and lots of contemporary films/shows reference that archetype, and it's an archetype that still works. Would the classic Flash of a muscle-head sports jock be an anachron...

Re: SPOILERS for Spiderman Far From Home

Is this a Flash that idolises Spider-man but torments Pete? Yes Is this a Flash that is a classic jock that torments Pete because he perceives him to be physically weaker in part because of his own physical abuse he's suffered, and is generally seen as a 'catch' by his female peers? No. Sure, he's g...
