Re: Draft planning thread

Not sure if I'll stick my hat in for the Avengers Worldwide draft. Cool enough concept though i doubt my creative juices run deep enough*, but I missed the first Avengers draft so it's a reasonably fresh playing field. When are you taking sign-ups, RingOtaku? *Hence why my MCU and Exiles draft teams...

I'll never forgive how they turned Batroc into a serious character in Winter Soldier. What was wrong with an over the top comedy Frenchman.

Re: Thunderbolts Draft

Big Genis-Vell fan. Surprised he's lasted until near the end of the third round. And also, how he's been in comic book limbo for so long. He died and nobody’s really been claiming him it seems I know. But how many deaths and returns have we seen since...it's been aaaages since he's been about.

Re: New Animated Marvel Shows Coming

Howard the Duck could be fantastic, or it could be Lucas levels of eugh. I'm worried they'll get the tone completely wrong on this one. A MODOK headed (no pun intended) show sounds like fun, and could be a dose of camp, slightly juvenile silliness or a decent sci-fi action show depending on the angl...

Re: Thunderbolts Draft

Hi Wings - just a thought, is it worth indicating on the player and character lists when mistaken identities have been used (and for whom). I'm assuming no one else can draft not just Zemo, but also the character who has been identified as Zemo following my pick.

Re: Is Kitty Really THAT Bad of a Leader?

But the trauma was outside his control. I mean you look at the run of Cyclops and Emma from Xavier’s departure right up to AvX...look at all they faced: M-Day, the Phoenix Force coming back to Earth (TWICE), Vampire invasion, Osborn basically taking over the world, a superhero civil war, government...

Re: Is Kitty Really THAT Bad of a Leader?

I've not really read much of Kitty's run, but I think Storm hasn't really had the greatest of runs. I think she's far, far stronger as squad unit leader than the leader of a broader organisation. Which is weird, given her empathy and charisma, but she's got a habit of things going to hell in a handc...

I'm also primarily just a beer man, Token. Rather than local brews, I'll usually keep to mass market lagers. Cider might take my fancy in the summer, and I'll occasionally have a white wine with dinner, but other than that, I'm a man of simple tastes.

Re: Emma Frost - I stand corrected

My favourite Emma is probably still early Gen X. Snarky without being quite so bitchy and liked her sparring with Sean. Her leadership of the students also felt like a real driver for her after the Hellions tragedy. Still not one of my favourite women of the team, particularly felt like she was ever...

Re: Captain Britain #1 and Roma

@znop, Sure, it's easy to speculate a connection. But CC is on record saying that none was intended. When I first read that annual (in an X-Men 1st appearances trade some time in the mid to late 90s) I was certain it was a connection. I hadn't read any of the original Pryor issues by that point, bu...

For clarification purposes, does the Mistaken Identity pick have to be plausible? For example, it wouldn't be prudent to have Nightcrawler masquerade as Songbird?

Re: Jake Gyllenhall in talks for role in Spider-Man Homecoming sequel

Apparently the elementals are coded references to Sandman, Hydro-Man and Molten-Man based on some eagle eyed spotting of Easter Eggs. (ASM 212 appearing on a boat near the Hydro-Man sequence is one). I also found most of the teens (Ned was okay) in Homecoming incredibly annoying (and somewhat juveni...

Re: Captain Britain #1 and Roma

I'm pretty sure it was UK printed only. Not sure if those early Marvel UK issues were ever distributed on first printing in the States (I know the much later early 90s titles - Death's Head II, Motormouth and Killpower etc. did go via the specialist retailer route in the States).

I had an original copy of Captain Britain #1. Complete with freebie mask. Probably my top 'claim' to an issue of some renown.

I would say when reading this the first time around, and subsequently, I never once had the same considerations you did.

Banshee. Definitely an Irish folk afficiando, might drift into something like the Dublineers or Van Morrison. On boozier, more riotous nights the Pogues or Thin Lizzy would go down a storm for Sean. Never even heard of Nikolai Dante LOL. Any fans of Brit comics know if anyone reprints old Deadline issues? It sits right around my musical grounding and from what I've heard it managed to merge coverage of late 80s / early 90s alt Brit rock with some great counter culture strips. Tank Girl is the o...
