Re: Jake Gyllenhall in talks for role in Spider-Man Homecoming sequel

After watching multiple reaction clips for the trailer, I'm surprised by just how many Mysterio fans there are (including a very excitable Kevin Smith)

Re: Runaways

Just binged the first season. It's pretty good. Better than the CW shows. Not as good as the best Netflix shows. I felt that it was pretty faithful to the source material in the characters. Sure, Molly's back story is different, but she works well. A few things I can't remember from the comic: (1) ...

Re: Monolith's Power Descriptions

Hello Mono.

I've never read any Earth-X books so don't know how much info is given about the characters, if you've read the books could you tell me what powers the X-Men team of Earth-X have (Dogface, Double Header etc.)

Re: Random Thoughts

Is no one talking about the fact that Phyla-Vel is alive again thanks to Infinity War? I think this forum gave up on this "event". Are there now two versions of Heather Douglas in 616? I'm sure the original version recently appeared as a member of the 'Knowhere Corps' alongside Mantis, Bug, Cosmo a...

Re: Avengers 4

Yeah, it’s like “if you were alive and old enough to enjoy Nirvana, you’ll probably enjoy the more mellow dad-grunge stylings of Nickelback”. @P90– having worked in bars and pubs my entire adult life, I can safely say that if you’ve avoided “this is how you remind me”, unless you’re generally someo...

Re: Captain Marvel

I wonder if, given the supposed power of the Infinity Gauntlet we'll see the return of characters who died prior to the 'snap' (which has now officially be named 'The Decimation'). I personally wouldn't mind seeing the return or Quicksilver or the Warriors Three (who's death's in Raganorok I felt wa...

Re: Avengers 4

I don't really understand the Nickleback hate. I don't love them, but I don't hate them. They're ok. I think ita more a fas to hate on them, like the Griffins hating on Meg in Family Guy. There's not really a reason for it Agreed. I'm not actually that familiar with them, if anyone asked the only s...

Re: Captain Marvel

And current Captain Marvel has gone Binary a number of times in recent history, too. The power isn't gone. She just uses it sparingly because it's alot and it drains her for awhile. Chances are, that's how this will work too. As BC said, the MCU tends to underpower their stronger characters (becaus...

Re: Captain Marvel

The MCU has downplayed the strength really of every superhuman hero and played up the strength of the “normies”. MCU Cap is stronger than comic comic but MCU Thor is definitely weaker than comic Thor. I really wonder if we could get super-skrulls (not THE super-skrull but super powered Skrulls) Tho...

Re: Captain Marvel

And that trailer is showing you Binary Carol. She's got the flame hair and everything. Carol can 'energise' herself (is that a the right word?) like that even at her 'normal' levels. You might be right though, they may be heading down the 'Binary' route, personally I feel it's a bit too early in he...

Re: Captain Marvel

Despite not believing Carol should be touted to be the 'most powerful hero in the MCU' I've always liked her in the comics (well up until her actions during stories such as the two Civil Wars at least), her history as a fighter pilot and intelligence agent has always been cool, also I loved how she...

Re: Captain Marvel

I know what you mean, and Danvers was always one of my favourite (Avengers) character. I don’t like the way she is promoted for business as the hero who does what others can’t. Despite not believing Carol should be touted to be the 'most powerful hero in the MCU' I've always liked her in the comics...

Re: Captain Marvel

Okay, I've sat on the sidelines for awhile because... wow. Does anyone here not understand the difference between personal racism/sexism and systemic racism/sexism? Does anyone here not understand the difference between explicit and implicit bias? Because, in reading this thread, it very much sound...

Re: Avengers 4

I've just been watching some of the reaction videos to the trailer, it's funny because despite all the jokes by some about Hawkeye 'not mattering' or 'being useless' (which I've never agreed with) his reappearance gets by far the biggest positive response in the majority of the vids :) Oh and the St...

Re: Captain Marvel

My only question is (and really only question), who does it hurt to show more varied people in a media? Will white people lose anything if there are more brown and black faces? Or how will men be hurt if more women are on TV in more varied roles? Because there’s nothing but positives (for the minor...

Re: Captain Marvel

And P-90 - those stats are nationwide for the UK. You know as well as I do that it's not a equal distribution of BAME characters through the country. If you're doing a show or movie in London or Birmingham, you'd expect a far greater proportion of BAME characters than if you were looking something ...

Re: Captain Marvel

You know, this thread has been the most useful procrastination I’ve done in a very long time. I am currently writing a brief on implicit bias in jury selection, and these posts really helped me to organize and articulate my thoughts. 'Implicit bias' is interesting especially as, as has been stated,...

Re: Avengers 4

I thought it was great, it was teasing us, and I feel like kind of obviously implying this is the last go round for a few of them. The sad look of Hawkeye...I'll be happy to see him back. I did feel the trailer was limited at first, thinking about it now though I'm unfairly comparing it to the trai...

Re: Captain Marvel

I liked the first trailer more. I’d be fine with Carol being stronger than Hulk and Thor in brute strength. There’s no reason the strongest character in a fantasy needs to be male. Or large. I would expect Dr. Strange and Wanda to be able to do things to Carol she can’t solve. Wrap her up in a time...

Re: Captain Marvel

It’s only a very big leap because it appears you’re conflating racism with something much more simplistic. Again, I’m not talking about some guy in a hood form of racism, but cultural and social actions that denigrate, belittle or marginalize groups of people based on race and ethnicity. An aside, ...

Re: Captain Marvel

I’m just going to be honest, I don’t think you’re a bad person or racist or sexist...but I think it’s painfully naive to believe that there cannot be racist ideologies behind the decisions of a Hollywood exec (or that somehow Hollywood is clear of bias). This doesn’t mean a foaming at the mouth hat...
