Re: Extreme Carnage: Phage

Well, the authors of this event are SURE stacking the deck against our heroes. I don't think I've ever seen a book where the heroes "lose" two issues in a row with no sign of how they're gonna get out of this one. Also: RIP Phage-dog's life. I've always wanted the Life Foundation symbiotes to get mo...

Re: X-Corps #3

It's def taking a minute to speed up, but this was the most enjoyable issue to me so far. I like seeing X-Corp continuing to provide tech and services based around mutants powers and the IBG was a good example of that. The medicines that Krakoa initially offered are great, but companies need to grow...

Re: Way of X #4

I'm enjoying the Onslaught sub-plot and I actually think that it's perfect that Xavier can't sense Onslaught - after all, he never did in the lead-up to the Onslaught event either. I also like David keeping the Xorns around as a failsafe, that's smart. Unfortunately, I feel like David is the one dri...

Re: what are you reading?

I've gotten a number of condolences from friends regarding Name of the Wind and don't worry ya'll, I've been reading comics since I was 12, I'm used to stories not finishing. *thumbs up* I'll enjoy what ride there is.

Re: what are you reading?

Read Patrick Rothfuss' "the Name of the Wind" and Susan Dennard's "Sightwitch" this past week. Sightwitch is an in-between novella for books 2 and 3 of Dennard's Witchlands series and provides some nice background for the world while telling a cute story of love and loss and finding one's path. It h...

Re: COTA #5

I just wanted to complain that Maggott has never referred to Eany and Meany as "the boys" previously. That IS an absolutely small detail that's totally easy to forget or overlook, but Maggott has had SO little story in his existence - and COTA clearly deals with identity - that I'd've liked to have ...

Re: Heroes Return

Peter Parker is turned into a bug-man at the end of Peter Parker, Shutterbug, and the issue ends with him jumping to his death - protecting the world the only way that he's able to. I suppose that it IS possible that he survived, but that he survived, and somehow turned back into normal Peter Parker...

Re: Heroes Return

I've now read three versions of Heroes Reborn - the OG run in 97, the event spinning out of Claremont's FF in 2000, and now this - and this is easily my personal fave. I liked the structure of this, perhaps, the most. Aaron presented with a story-type that we've seen before - reality is rewritten an...

Re: Marvel September solicitations

Can we talk about the “Brain trust” approach to Spidey returning? I LOVED Slott’s run and found Spencer’s run to be fun too…but to return to the BND approach, I will say the bar is set really high. And then bring back Ben Reilly after soooo much has happened to him from being Jackal to his differen...

Re: Planet Sized X-Men #1

This wasn't Hickman's book, it was Gerry Duggan's. Hickman isn't the only person with ideas, y'all  Keep it quiet, they won’t likeit if it’s by Duggan lol Thankfully I didn't like this from the jump - so thank you both for restoring some part of my faith in Hickman's writing abilities and cont...

Re: Planet Sized X-Men #1

I liked the execution of this. I thought the way that Hickman had this particular group of mutants work together to transform Mars was clever, it FEELS like it makes sense (even if it doesn't), and I'll admit that it's a bold move for the Krakoans and it's a clever solve for the problem represented ...

Re: Heroes Reborn #6

I see the exact OPPOSITE of Wonder Woman in Power Princess. The iteration of WW that I'm most familiar with is the one who offers a hand in friendship before throwing a fist in anger - but this Princess has ONLY anger. To me, she actually feels most like a dark mirror of Thor (given Aaron's long-his...

Re: Marvel Double Action

Aren’t the Squadron artificial constructs? Like they aren’t “real” people. Mephisto resurrected Coulson and looks to have played some part in Coulson creating his fake Squadron. The same Mephisto who was trapped in Las Vegas (until Johnny Freed him), the same Mephisto who Moon Knight had visions of...

Re: Heroes Reborn #4

The New Warriors "Time and Time Again" crossover was a reality re-write before the AoA, if I have my dates right. I was quite surprised to discover it when I put together my New Warriors collection. I know they aren't REALLY an Avengers book, but still, it's outside the X-family and it DID feature a...

I see what you’re saying and can understand the anger but even then: Resurrection is a thing for Kevin if someone so chosen (like with Wendell Vaughn) and I’m sure Wally West fans would disagree about that respect thing lol… My anger over this, while existent, is pretty mild. I'm at like, a 2 out o...

Re: Heroes Reborn #4

My problem isn't inherent to how Kevin or the new Starbrand - I don't even remember her name, that's how much I don't care about this child - got their powers, it's how the PERSON behind the power is being treated as disposable. The second that Aaron needed to remove the power of the starbrand from ...

Re: Heroes Reborn #4

I didn't even CATCH Rocket as Lobo, that one snuck right past me. This issue was also my least favorite. Dr. Spectrum pretty much reads the same as Hyperion from his solo issue - I am American and everything NOT American needs to be shot and/or killed. I do like the subtext that Aaron has in here th...

Re: Heroes Reborn #3

Let's do a heroes-reborn-high-five BC cuz I am also digging this. I was honestly very skeptical coming in about Aaron's ability to a) convey personalities for the Squad, b) present a whole new interpretation of the Marvel U, c) still have the Avengers in it, and d) tell a competent story, but so far...

Re: Hyperion and the Imperial Guard #121

I love when comic companies make up letters pages for books that don't actually exist - I got strong flashbacks to the 90's Amalgam events and just loved it.

A fun read otherwise. I wouldn't mind more of either of these books, to be honest.

Re: Heroes Reborn #2

I love the absolutely disgusting levels of "Marvel playing with DC ideas" that the Squadron represents and this issue didn't let me down. Way to set a tone with that first two-page spread. I love how much Hyperion riffs off the idea of Superman, but then in terms of his character, absolutely is not....

Like... not to be the one, but to be the one, does anyone else think that these kids getting their powers (potentially) from an alien ship feels a bit like Power Pack? And that other than telepathy, their powers are kind of similar to the PP kids? As I was typing my first post, I had a similar thou...

Re: Children of the Atom #3

I'm actually enjoying the work introducing the cast - these single-issues-focusing-on-one-character have really worked for me. However. As a group, when they're all together, I find the cast pretty obnoxious. I also hated the alien-ship-part of this story. I'm assuming that we're supposed to be intr...

Re: Immortal Hulk #46

This was good. I actually felt bad for Ironclad, when he got his head squished out of shape. How will he wear a hat now? I also loved Gyrich complaining to the team and them telling him to suck eggs. For a character that's been around super-heroes for as long as he has, HPG is like the least effecti...
